Simon and Schuster to Release New Star Trek: TNG novel

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a huge Star Trek Geekzilla. There, I said it! My therapist said that admitting the problem is half the battle. (I think I might have heard something similar from G.I. Joe.) But as usual, I digress. The evidence of this is found in my fondness for the Star Trek Novels. Back in the ancient days of my childhood, I used to own a huge collection of the “Pocketbooks” Original Series paperbacks. That included some of my favorites “Yesterday’s Son” by A.C. Crispin, “Ishmael” by Barbara Hambly, and “The Vulcan Academy Murders” by Jean Lorrah. After I read these, some to the point of coming apart, I moved on to the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine book series. I STILL own the e-book versions of all of these. (more full disclosure)

So why do I mention all of this? It seems that the adventures of the crew of the USS Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation will be continuing in a new novel from Simon and Schuster to be released. in April 2019. Star Trek: The Next Generation: Available Light is written by Dayton Ward and takes place in the Star Trek novel series’ post-Star Trek: Nemesis timeline.

The announcement of Available Light should be welcome news for fans of the long-running Star Trek novel series. The unusually long absence of new novels was reportedly necessary while Simon and Schuster worked out the details of a new licensing contract. In addition to Available Light, Simon and Schuster also announced the fourth Star Trek: Discovery prequel novel and the next installment of the Star Trek: The Original Series line. So fans of the Star Trek novels have even more to look forward to.

In other news, rumor has it that “CBS has been talking to Patrick Stewart about the actor reprising his role as Picard in a new, in-canon Star Trek television series following the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation.” If this is true, it would be more welcome news to fans of the Next Generation.

With the promise of new Star Trek Novels, and the possibility of a new CBS Star Trek series to go along with Star Trek:Discovery, Star Trek fans will have more opportunities to get their Trek fix. Put me in that category.

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Available Light goes on sale April 2019.
