World of Warcraft: Forever, announced at BlizzCon on 12 September 2026 and launching on 4 November 2026, is Blizzard’s Classic+ take on the original game. Most of its additions sit in the mid and late levels, but one of the most visible changes is right at the start: a new playable race, the Skyborne, with its own starting zone, Zephras Isle, covering levels 1 to 12.
New starting zones change how the first hours of a Classic-style game feel, and they also change how players think about the long climb that follows. Some players plan to enjoy every quest, while others look at a wow forever level boost or at shortcuts within the game itself. Either way, it helps to know what Blizzard has actually confirmed about the new start before forming expectations.
What the Skyborne are, and what is known
Blizzard has confirmed that the Skyborne are a new race in Forever and that playing one requires a paid pack, the Heroic Pack or higher. Forever itself is included in a regular subscription or Game Time; the pack requirement applies to the race. Pack prices have not been verified and are not covered here.
Beyond that, details are thin in official material. Questions such as the race’s lore, racial abilities and which classes it can play are best checked against Blizzard’s own pages at launch rather than taken from early speculation.

Zephras Isle and the 1-12 bracket
Zephras Isle is the Skyborne start zone and spans levels 1 to 12. That is a longer opening than a single starter area in the original game, where the first zone usually handed players off to a neighbouring region after a handful of levels. A 12-level start zone means a new character can stay in one self-contained area through the early training and gear milestones.
Forever’s overall design keeps Classic’s fixed level ranges and has no level scaling, so Zephras Isle should be treated as a specific bracket rather than a zone that adapts to the player. Once a character outgrows it, rewards and experience from its quests lose value, just as in the original game. Twelve levels is also long enough for several rounds of class training and the first real gear decisions, so the zone acts as a full tutorial for the Classic pace rather than a short prologue.
How a new start zone changes early levelling
A fresh starting zone matters for reasons beyond novelty:
- Less crowding at launch. In earlier Classic launches, starting areas were packed and quest mobs were contested. A new race and zone spreads part of the population across another area, although how much depends on how many players pick the Skyborne.
- Unfamiliar quests. Veteran players know the original starter routes by heart. A new zone removes that advantage and puts everyone on equal footing for the first dozen levels.
- Longer runway before the old world. Twelve levels in one zone gives a slower, more contained introduction before a character heads into the wider world.
- Ruleset matters from day one. Forever is realmless; players pick a Normal, PvP or RP ruleset and only group within the same faction and ruleset. Changing ruleset means a new character, so the decision is worth making before investing in a Skyborne.
Where Zephras Isle fits in the wider levelling path
Zephras Isle is only the first step. Forever adds more than 1000 new quests spread across levels 1 to 60, new zones and nine new dungeons, with no flying mounts.
| Zone or content | Level range | Notes |
| Zephras Isle | 1-12 | Skyborne starting zone |
| The Riverglades | About 35-45 | 150+ quests |
| Shen’dralas | Reported ranges differ (40-45 or 45-53) | New zone, range not settled in sources |
| Mount Hyjal | 60 | Level-60 endgame zone |
| Darkspear Islands | – | New 15v15 battleground |
Between the starting zone and the later new regions, characters move through a world built on the familiar Classic structure. The new dungeons, including Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron and Excavation Site, sit along that path. Blizzard tested Excavation Site in the beta, and the same build cut bonus XP from dungeon quests by 50%, a signal that dungeons are meant to complement questing rather than replace it.
Things to decide before launch day
Because so much is fixed once a character is created, a short checklist helps:
- Choose your ruleset. Normal, PvP or RP, with no cross-ruleset grouping.
- Decide on the Skyborne. It requires the Heroic Pack or higher; without it, the original races remain available.
- Agree with friends. Grouping requires the same faction and ruleset, so coordinate first.
- Expect no shop boost. Blizzard has said it has “no plans” for paid character boosts in Forever, and there is no WoW Token.
- Budget time for the long middle. The beta only reached level 30, so levels 31 to 60 had not been tested publicly before launch.
What is still unclear
Several points about the new start will only be settled once Forever is live. Racial details, class availability for the Skyborne and how many players choose the new race will all shape how Zephras Isle feels on launch day. Blizzard has also not published details on professions, so it is not possible to say how gathering or crafting fits into the first 12 levels.
What is clear is the frame: a new race behind a paid pack, a 1-12 starting zone, fixed level ranges, no flying and no scaling. For players who enjoy the first hours of a Classic-style game, Zephras Isle is the most genuinely new part of the early journey, and it is worth experiencing with clear expectations rather than assumptions borrowed from retail or from the original Classic.
A note on reading early coverage
Launch weeks tend to produce confident guides built on beta impressions, and some of those impressions will not hold. When in doubt, compare any claim about the Skyborne or Zephras Isle with Blizzard’s own patch notes and official pages. Details that are not there, such as racial bonuses or exact pack contents, should be treated as unconfirmed until they are. The same applies to any claim about how many players will pick the new race: population estimates made before 4 November are guesses, and the real picture only appears once characters are created.
