Cult Movies, Shows & Classic Comics brings together 9 documentaries based on 9 iconic movies, TV shows and comic franchises. Taking a deep dive into these popular IP’s before finding every single video game based upon them.
Not every licensed video game is terrible… although, most of them are!
Originally created on the YouTube channel Slope’s Game Room, these popular short films look at how classic horror franchises such as Friday the 13th™, SAW™ and The Evil Dead™ began their gruesome journeys. We look at the creation of classic comics such as The Mask™, Howard The Duck™ and Scott Pilgrim™. Ever wondered how Robocop vs Terminator™ and Alien vs Predator™ began their timelines? What about the creation of classic cartoons shows such as Beavis & Butthead™?
We take a look at all of them. And, we dig deep searching for every video game too, some of which have never been officially released. It’s all here and it’s cut into 9 separate episodes for your enjoyment, bringing the total run time to over 4 hours (plus extra bonus features and easter eggs too).
This Blu-ray also includes the world’s 1st Blu-ray 3D Maze Game. A throwback to the classic 1980’s maze games of old where you will need to find your way through the maze searching for characters based on the classic franchises featured on this disc. Can you make your way out of the maze and discover what reward lies at the end?

Video Quality
Slope’s Game Room: Cult Movies, Shows & Classic Comics arrives on Blu-Ray from ETR Media with a fetching HD master which wrings every ounce of quality out of this material. This release features nine short films and bonus features that total over four hours of material. Despite so much material being packed on a single disc, the quality stays in top form throughout. Yes, this is content made for YouTube, but these films have been updated with better-quality gameplay and editing. We want all the content we love available on our shelves in its best form, so these Slope’s Game Room releases have been a godsend thus far.
The material maintains the same format as the first release. You have a mixture of newer talking head bits with DJ Slope complementing gameplay footage, marketing clips, and pictures for a big-picture look at the history of each title. Any older footage appears to be derived from the most stable origins possible. With many of these titles being more recent than the SEGA offerings, there is an uptick in visual quality. No matter the quality of the graphics in the gameplay footage, the material looks fantastic with a clear image and vibrant colors. The new segments look pristine with natural skin tones and some nuanced facial features. The encoding does not show much in the way of compression artifacts or digital nuisances. We hope ETR Media keeps these releases rolling!
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray disc once again does not provide lossless audio, but it does feature a strong Dolby Digital 2.0 track that translates the soundscape well. This is first and foremost a narrated video with the appropriate sounds accompanying the gameplay footage. We get a straightforward stereo track so the material is not exactly immersive, but it is in line with its origins. Dialogue is the star as you get this thoughtfully composed presentation delivered in a controlled environment. Any competing elements come through with terrific fidelity. There are no notable digital anomalies or other issues embedded. This track does everything it needs to do. There are optional English SDH subtitles provided.
Special Features

- Audio Commentaries: Each video is given a solo commentary track from DJ Slope aka Daniel Ibbertson that gives greater context to the video you are watching both from a production side and additional details that were not included in the video itself. Final Thoughts
Slope’s Game Room: Cult Movies, Shows & Classic Comics is another fantastic release that speaks to our nerdy heart. DJ Slope always puts in the work to uncover all the weird and unexpected details behind these games. Even if the games themselves are not good, you gain a new appreciation for them knowing the journey to console. Sure, we love a hard-hitting documentary on vital issues plaguing the world, but sometimes you need to decompress and immerse yourself in the simple pleasure of classic (and not-so-classic) video games. Whether you love video games, the franchises being discussed, or have no real knowledge of either, these videos stand on their own as great entertainment. ETR Media has released a Blu-Ray featuring a rock-solid A/V presentation and some unbelievable special features. Highly Recommended
Slope’s Game Room: Cult Movies, Shows & Classic Comics is currently available to purchase on Standard Edition Blu-Ray or with a Limited Edition Slipcover exclusively through Vinegar Syndrome.
