Video Quality
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut comes to 4K UHD Blu-Ray with 2160p Dolby Vision/HDR transfer which is quite impressive if you understand the limitations of the source. Matt Stone and Trey Parker have confirmed that much of the material from the early run of South Park no longer exists due to the digital workflow of the time that did not preserve the original files. Nevertheless, the movie has been given a new 4K scan derived from a 35mm filmout of the original digital source. All baked-in deficiencies in the animation are intact, but the new scan fixes many of the issues that plagued previous releases. When compared to the ancient Blu-Ray from 2009, the results are nearly night and day as DNR has been replaced by rich natural film grain.
While this series has never been a bastion for animated perfection, it is fair to say that this movie does not have the seamless qualities that we have come to associate with the most recent seasons. This 4K UHD upgrade is not going to enhance digital animation techniques that make the film slightly dated from a visual standpoint, but we are happy to report that the animation is given a nice boost in basic textures and details with this new release. Nearly every element is presented with greater clarity than ever before.
This disc also impresses with the implementation of the Dolby Vision. The colors present in this transfer unleash a wider range of hues that permeate the frame. Each color is presented with a bit more nuance so that everything appears more accurate to the intended aesthetic. Black levels are improved with no major stumbling with compression artifacts or digital anomalies of the sort. The highlights are handled with greater stability in a way that brings the most out of this material. This is a rich 4K UHD Blu-Ray presentation that blows the previous Blu-Ray out of the water, and it is an experience that fans will love.
Audio Quality
This release boasts a momentous Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track suitable for a big-screen adventure. There is a surprising amount of activity in the low end due to the various musical sequences and World War III at the end of the film. Atmospheric effects are deeply immersive and convey a true sense of dimensionality to the locations. The track engages all of the channels with panning effects and environmental sounds that create a fully fleshed-out world.
Dialogue comes through clearly without getting overshadowed by any competing sound effects or score. The music in the film is wild and hilarious while letting this material soar with ideal fidelity. An Atmos track would have been interesting, but this presentation is no slouch. Paramount has delivered a crackerjack audio presentation that brings this story to life quite nicely. Optional English SDH and French subtitles are provided.
Special Features

Final Thoughts
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is slightly less shocking these days due to much of the dialogue being completely uncensored in the later seasons of the series. That being said, there is a purity of vision that cannot be beaten as you get the rough-and-tumble animation ushering us along this deliriously funny, chaotic journey. There are so many classic lines that stick with us all these years later, but the hilarious songs are what make this feel more unique. If you are a fan of the series, the movie is firing on all cylinders. Paramount Home Entertainment has released a 4K UHD Blu-Ray that offers a grand upgrade to the A/V presentation along with a smattering of supplemental features. Recommended
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is currently available to purchase on 4K UHD Blu-Ray and Digital.
