Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day spends much of its runtime bringing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker back to a more personal corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie follows a lonely Peter attempting to rebuild his life while protecting New York as a full-time Spider-Man, but its final surprise suggests his world may soon become much larger.
The film contains one post-credits scene, positioned at the very end of the credits. There is no additional mid-credits sequence.
Rather than introducing a recognizable villain or showing Peter meeting another Marvel hero, the scene returns to Ned Leeds’ Spidey Tracker. The app searches beyond New York, pulls away from Earth and eventually displays a Spider-Man symbol somewhere in outer space.
The sequence then ends with a simple promise: Spider-Man will return.
It is a brief scene, but its lack of explanation makes it one of the movie’s most intriguing moments. Marvel and Sony clearly want audiences asking where Spider-Man is, which version of the character the tracker has detected and what kind of story could take the franchise beyond Earth.
Ned’s Spidey Tracker Becomes More Than A Running Detail
The Spidey Tracker is introduced earlier in the movie as an app developed by Ned, who still remembers Spider-Man even though Doctor Strange’s spell erased his memories of Peter Parker.
Ned does not know that the hero he is tracking was once his best friend. From his perspective, Spider-Man is simply the person who repeatedly protected him and others during their high school years. Creating the tracker gives Ned a way to follow the hero’s activities and perhaps eventually thank him.
The app also becomes a clever reminder of the emotional damage caused by the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter can see that Ned still cares about Spider-Man, but he cannot explain why their connection was once far more personal.
That emotional context makes the post-credits scene more effective. The tracker was not introduced solely as a piece of technology waiting to deliver a sequel tease. It is connected to Ned’s lingering interest in a hero he no longer realizes he knew personally.
By returning to the app after the credits, the movie transforms a character detail into a possible bridge toward the MCU’s next major event.
Is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man No Longer On Earth?
The most straightforward interpretation is that the symbol represents Holland’s Peter Parker and that he has somehow left Earth.
That possibility immediately raises questions because Peter is still on Earth when the main story concludes. The post-credits sequence could therefore take place later, after an unseen event pulls him into space or another part of the multiverse.
Marvel has previously used post-credits scenes that occur sometime after the movie’s ending. The scene may not be showing what happens immediately after Peter’s final moments in Brand New Day. It could instead offer a glimpse of his status during an upcoming crossover.
The obvious candidate is Avengers: Doomsday. Doctor Doom’s arrival and the growing instability of the multiverse could place Earth’s heroes in situations far removed from their normal surroundings.
However, the scene never mentions Doom, the Avengers or an incursion. It also does not show Peter being transported anywhere. Connecting the image directly to Doomsday is reasonable speculation, but it is not something the movie explicitly confirms.
Could The Tracker Be Detecting A Different Spider-Man?
Another possibility is that the symbol does not represent Holland’s Peter at all.
The scene only presents a Spider-Man icon. It does not show the character behind the mask, identify a universe or explain how Ned’s app could detect someone so far away.
That ambiguity creates room for the signal to belong to another Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned as alternate Peter Parkers in No Way Home, establishing that several live-action versions of the hero exist across the multiverse.
A future Avengers movie could bring those characters back as realities begin to collide. The signal could theoretically be connected to one of them, although the scene offers no visual clue that clearly points toward Maguire or Garfield.
Miles Morales will also inevitably be part of the discussion whenever Marvel teases another Spider-Man. The character has become central to Sony’s animated Spider-Verse films, while the live-action MCU has previously acknowledged the existence of his uncle, Aaron Davis.
Still, nothing in the post-credits scene confirms Miles’ arrival. The Spider-Man symbol in space is designed to generate possibilities rather than provide a clear answer.
Secret Wars May Be The More Likely Destination
While Avengers: Doomsday is the next major MCU crossover, the cosmic image may ultimately be pointing further ahead toward Avengers: Secret Wars.
The comic-book versions of Secret Wars bring heroes and villains from different realities together after the normal boundaries between worlds collapse. The 2015 story creates Battleworld, a patchwork planet assembled from the remnants of destroyed universes and ruled by Doctor Doom.
The MCU does not have to adapt that story exactly, but the basic idea provides an obvious reason for multiple Spider-Man variants to appear in the same place.
If the tracker is detecting a Spider-Man beyond Earth, it could be hinting that the character has already been drawn into the multiversal conflict that will eventually lead to Secret Wars. It could also suggest that Ned’s technology is accidentally registering someone from another universe rather than locating the Peter he knows.
Again, the scene stops well before confirming Battleworld or any specific storyline. Its purpose is to tell audiences that Spider-Man’s next appearance may take him beyond the street-level world established throughout most of Brand New Day.
The Space Imagery Will Renew Venom Speculation
The decision to place the Spider-Man icon in space will also cause fans to revisit the MCU’s unresolved symbiote storyline.
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock is returned to his own universe, but a small piece of the Venom symbiote remains behind in the MCU. That moment appeared to establish the possibility that Holland’s Spider-Man could eventually encounter his own version of the alien organism.
Because symbiotes are extraterrestrial creatures, a cosmic Spider-Man tease naturally invites theories about Venom, the black suit or another alien threat.
The visual alone is not enough to prove that a symbiote is involved. The tracker displays a Spider-Man marker, not a Venom symbol, a piece of black material or any other recognizable sign of the alien.
Marvel could be intentionally using the Spider-Man icon as a misdirection, but the more responsible reading is that the symbiote connection remains a theory. The post-credits scene does not resolve what happened to the fragment left behind in No Way Home.
The Scene Is Surprisingly Restrained
Previous Spider-Man post-credits scenes have often delivered direct and immediate revelations.
Spider-Man: Far From Home exposed Peter Parker’s secret identity to the world and brought J.K. Simmons back as J. Jonah Jameson. No Way Home established that a piece of the Venom symbiote had remained in Peter’s universe.
Brand New Day chooses a less direct approach. It does not introduce a celebrity cameo, reveal a new villain or show Peter standing beside the Avengers.
Instead, it presents a location without explaining who is there or how they arrived.
That restraint may frustrate viewers hoping for a definitive answer, but it also prevents the movie from locking Spider-Man into one obvious destination. The scene can potentially connect to Doomsday, Secret Wars, another solo film or several of those projects at once.
It also allows Brand New Day to maintain its identity as Peter’s story. The main film is not forced to end with Doctor Doom or another major MCU character arriving to overshadow Peter’s emotional journey.
Spider-Man’s Future Is Bigger, But Still Unclear
The only part of the scene that is completely unambiguous is its final message. Spider-Man will return.
Exactly where that return happens remains unknown. Holland could appear in an Avengers crossover before leading another solo movie, or the signal could belong to a different Spider-Man who will become important during the multiverse’s collapse.
Theories involving Maguire, Garfield, Miles Morales, Venom and Battleworld are all understandable, but none should be treated as confirmed based on the scene alone.
For now, the post-credits sequence accomplishes what a strong Marvel stinger should. It takes something established within the movie, gives it a larger meaning and leaves audiences with a question that cannot be answered by simply identifying a familiar face.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day may bring Peter Parker back to the streets of New York, but its final image suggests the next chapter could carry the web-slinger farther from home than ever before.
