‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Has Wrapped Principal Photography

A journey that began a long time ago in a galaxy far far away has come to an end. Director J.J. Abrams took to Twitter to announce that principal photography on Star Wars: Episode IX has wrapped. The image posted shows Daisy, John and Oscar all in an embrace in a picture that appears to be from the new film even though Rey looks to be wearing her outfit from The Force Awakens.

There is no doubt that there is still a lot of work to do before its release in December but for now it is quite a somber moment knowing that the Skywalker story has come to an end. After the prequels, Lucas sold the rights to Disney and shortly thereafter J.J. Abrams was brought in to direct The Force Awakens which would spurn a new trilogy of films. Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi was not well received by most fans and even though it was a monster at the box office, Disney asked Abrams to return and close the trilogy out.

Even though this closes the door, potentially, on the Skywalker saga there are still many stories to be told. Favreau is working on The Mandalorian series for Disney+. Game of Thrones show runners Benioff and Weiss and Rian Johnson are both planning a trilogy of their own.  There are so many Star Wars stories to be told and I am glad to be part of the ride.
