    Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced that the coming-of-age period drama The Color Purple will be available to own for the first time on 4K UHD Blu-Ray and Digital on December 5, 2023. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Menno Meyjes and is based on Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The film stars Danny Glover, Adolph Caesar, Margaret Avery, Rae Dawn Chong, Whoopi Goldberg in her breakthrough role, and Oprah Winfrey in her film debut.

    The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards® including Best Picture, Best Actress (Whoopi Goldberg), Best Supporting Actress (Margaret Avery, Oprah Winfrey), Best Screenplay – Based on Material from Another Medium, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song. Get more details below!

    Synopsis: Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey star in director Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple.

    From 1909 to 1949, Celie, a Southern Black woman, gradually gains self-respect as she strives to educate herself and to find love–despite an abusive spouse and a society biased against her race and her sex.
