It’s been a hot topic for some time now. Who is going to take over 007 when Daniel Craig exits? There have been several names thrown around, including the likes of Tom Hiddleston. Even Angelina Jolie stated at one point she’d love to play a female James Bond. Another name that has been thrown into the mix for a couple of years now has been Idris Elba. You may know him as Heimdall from the Thor movies or as Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim. Or you probably know him because he’s one of the best looking men on the face of the Earth.
While he’s been a fan favorite to play Bond, it seems that now this fan casting may actually turn into a reality. According to Esquire, the studios are leaning towards Elba as a major possibility for replacing Daniel Craig. Even though Craig has another Bond film under his belt, who will be the well-known spy is always a topic for discussion. The James Bond films have done very well since the first one premiered in 1962 and although Bond has always been a British, white male, it’s time to break away from the same old same old.
James Bond is supposed to be tall, dark, and handsome. You know what Idris Elba is? Tall, dark, and handsome.
Director Antoine Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, in which she said “it is time” for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role. Fuqua discussed who might be next in the running with Broccoli, who’s certain the progressive move “will happen eventually”, with Idris Elba a reported frontrunner for the role. – Independent News reports.
Daniel Craig has been a great 007 and as someone who has seen all of his Bond movies, I have nothing, but respect for the man. And whoever they choose to play Bond will hopefully exude the same dedication Craig has. But, the studios would be foolish not to indict Elba into their franchise. The appeal that Elba has would bring in even larger numbers to the theaters for the next James Bond film and with how excited fans are with this small amount of information, the response, if he was actually cast, would be tremendous.
