Talking Thrones: Part 1

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1326″ img_size=”700×475″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]As I sit here, just finished watching Game of Thrones for the 3rd time, a thought pops into my head “what if we at GVN teamed up to make a blog series on Thrones?” Well after discussing it with my fellow writers, Tia and myself have come to the conclusion that we are going to do a Thrones series, because it’s the best show on TV, and because we both love it dearly.

The layout for the series will be pretty easy to follow along to. For each season, we’ll pick 3 episodes to deep dive into and talk about why they’re our favorites; after that, we’ll have a nice little duo post where we wrap up the season, talking about things we liked, things we didn’t like, character arcs that we’re appreciating, etc. And then to wrap up the series, we’re going to do a special set of posts titled “The Thrones Top 10”.

Of all the things to write about, we chose Game of Thrones. Why, you might ask; because it’s special to both of us.

For me personally, I started watching Thrones about a year ago, right before season 7 premiered and immediately fell in love. I loved how it covered every genre of television in one show: action, mystery, comedy, romance, and even family disputes. Thrones did it all for me. Really, all it took was for me to watch the first episode of season 1 and I suddenly knew why everyone was so crazy about this show. It was tantalizingly good, easily the best show I’ve ever seen on television. Immediately following my first time seeing the show, I had to read the series of books, and am on my second time doing that. Thrones means enough to me that I specifically bought Funko Pops that were only Game of Thrones for a solid month and a half (and still have trouble buying ones that aren’t Thrones related), I named my pet bearded dragon Drogon, and am planning my next two tattoos to be Game of Thrones inspired. One could say I’m slightly obsessed. But that’s why I think a series like this is so important, because we, as writers, get to talk about something that we love and you all get to interact with us telling us stuff you loved and didn’t love. -KS

Game of Thrones is one of those series that I had numerous people tell me that I should watch it, that I would be into it. Alas, it was only until a friend of mine allowed me to use her HBO login that I was able to catch up. Wow. What a series. Besides Westworld, I don’t believe there really is anything on television today that has the intricacies and the storytelling that Game of Thrones does. To watch every season develop on one consistent plotline and actually seeing it come to a head it utterly satisfying to watch. There is nothing more that I want than for characters like Daenerys, Tyrion, the Hound, and yes, even Jaime Lannister; to come out triumphant against Cersei and now, Euron Greyjoy. As Game of Thrones fans, we all hated Joffrey together and as horrific as Ramsey was, we know there will never be another evil force quite like him. This is an amazing show that I am more than happy to revisit with Kevin until the final season comes and presumably, blows our minds. – Tia

So, we both hope you’re as excited for this trip back to Westeros and Essos as we are. Hopefully, it will help make the wait for *supposedly* April 2019 go by a lot faster! Be sure to comment on the posts things you liked or didn’t like from the episode being covered, or any episode really, and share your opinions with us, we’d love to hear from you all!
