If there is one classic monster that has been re-emerging in popularity as of late, besides the Werewolf, it’s Frankenstein’s monster. In 2024, we had the surprising gem that is Lisa Frankenstein. Later this year, we get to witness the macabre beauty of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which is currently being celebrated at the Venice Film Festival. In 2026, Maggie Gyllenhaal will debut The Bride, focusing on the companion of the beloved reanimated creature. I wonder what Mary Shelley would think of the continued legacy of her work. Anyway, Terror Vision is providing you with a fix this week before your insatiable need leads you down a road of lightning, body parts, and sewing needles.
Terror Vision promises to feed your Frankenstein for Week 4 of 13 Weeks of Halloween announcements in celebration of their 10-Year Anniversary celebration.
PATCHWORK (2015) dives deep into Stuart Gordon and Frank Henenlotter territory with a fun and bloody twist on Frankenstein that would make Mary Shelley’s head spin. Patchwork’s mad scientist assembles his FrankenBeauty out of three different Final Girls who are forced to share one monstrous body (and consciousness). Limited to 1500 Slipcovered units, this release also comes in three parts: 4K, Blu-ray, and a CD soundtrack of Russ Howard’s score.
As always, physical media completists will find Bundle options for select 13 Weeks pre-orders, with themed, collectible bonus items. Those in the know stay tuned to @ _terror_vision_ for hints and clues throughout the week, then pounce on Terror-Vision.com first thing every Friday to grab these limited releases before their availability is killed off.
Last week launched a new sub-label dedicated to all things Giallo, DEATH NERVE VIDEO, with the gory and gorgeous French neo-Giallo, THE LAST SCREENING. Prior weeks saw a low-priced Secret Title only available for a limited time, HIDE AND GO SHRIEK in 4K, and the metal score to JIMMY AND STIGGS from Eli Roth’s The Horror Section. Week 1 initiated ‘13 Weeks’ with a trio of scholastic slasher fare: STUDENT BODIES (1981), DEATH BY DIALOGUE (1988), and the synth score to CHEERLEADER CAMP (1988). These are still available for pre-order while supplies last (some collectors’ bundles are limited to only 100 copies and are almost gone).
Terror Vision is one of the many iconoclastic brainchildren of musician and filmmaker Ryan Graveface, also the founder of both Graveface Records and The Graveface Museum (perhaps Savannah’s most macabre destination).
Syllabus For the Releases
PATCHWORK (2015)
Like Lisa Frankenstein, PATCHWORK is a modern, feminist take on the legendary novel; this incarnation wearing its Re-Animator influences proudly on the sleeve of its stitched-on skin. Tyler MacIntyre (The Tragedy Girls) deftly handles the playful 80’s body-swapesque vibe while keeping the horror elements front and center. Star Tory Stolper pilots their gruesome conglomeration with bravado, bleeding both Final Girl flair and physical comedy chops. Extras include a 40-page booklet, two director commentaries, a making-of featurette and more!
A Field Guide to TERROR VISION for the Uninitiated
Terror Vision is the rare home video haven for physical media connoisseurs that releases dotingly transferred obscure horror films not just on the now-essential 4K/Blu-ray formats, but on unkillable VHS too; as well as deep cut soundtracks on vinyl and cassette (Look out for a first-of-its-kind cassette-exclusive subscription coming soon).
Terror Vision has amassed a hive of devotees for its super-limited runs of low-budget fare like Gator Bait(perhaps the apotheosis of its kind) but this more Punk-at-Heart Criterion Collection is ramping up with a slew of A-List studio horror titles, coming soon.
Terror Vision has a permanent brick & mortar in Savannah, with a pop-up shop popped up next door to the Music Box Theatre in Chicago through November, full of new/used vinyl, boutique home video gems, and a wall of ‘Hey-I-remember-that-cover’ VHS tapes from the personal collection of filmmaker Joe ‘Mumblecore’ Swanberg (the pop-up’s co-founder).
