‘THE BATMAN’: HBO Max Developing Police Procedural Spinoff Series

The world of Batman just got larger and while The Batman is not part the DCEU, it will have its own world and a spin off series based on the GCPD. THR reports that Matt Reeves will produce the police procedural series with Terence Winter set to write and executive produce. Right now the series has no title but THR says they are calling Gotham Central and it is inspired by the procedural comic from writer Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka.

The new series will operate in the same world as Robert Pattinson’s Batman but right now there are no reports that Pattinson or Jeffrey Wright will be part of the series.

HBO Max on the new series

“set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.”

Matt Reeves also responded

“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford, And getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”

HBO Max CCO Kevin Reilly

“This is Batman as most audiences have never seen before and we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film.”

The world of Gotham was last explored on the Fox series Gotham which ran for 5 seasons.
