After a series of strange events leads her to question her family’s isolated life on a fortified compound deep in the English wilds, 10-year-old Willow (Caoilinn Springall) follows her parents on one of their secret late-night treks to the heart of the ancient forest. But upon witnessing her father undergo a terrible transformation, she too becomes ensnared by the dark ancestral secret they’ve tried so desperately to conceal.

Video Quality
The Beast Within comes to Blu-Ray with a fetching AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.39:1. The hues that saturate the frame tend to lean on the cooler side of the spectrum despite the greens of the foliage and flashes of color in the clothing. Black levels could be more refined, but there is not much in the way of crush, and skin tones are natural throughout. The picture is mostly clear with only brief downturns during a few darker scenes. The film does deliver some softer shots for creative reasons on occasion, but nothing that would distract from the viewing experience. Where the transfer really shines is the impressive level of detail in even the subtlest aspects of the house and the forest. Overall, this is a great transfer from Well Go USA.
Audio Quality
The film comes to Blu-Ray with a top-notch DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track. The movie provides a great workout with environmental sounds that yield an immersive atmosphere for the story. Surround channels get some robust activity during the nature scenes and moments of transformation. The low end of the track is especially active during the attack during the finale with some heavy hits. The dialogue and sound effects are adequately balanced with the score where nothing gets drowned out in the track. This track is quite a force and will be appreciated by horror fans who pick up this disc. Optional English SDH and French subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
The Beast Within is ripe with atmosphere and dread, yet the narrative itself rarely coalesces into something essential. The dad character played by Kit Harington feels reduced to a caricature rather than giving him the proper exploration. Our young lead is terrific and brings a lot of heart to her character, but it is not enough to make up for other shortcomings. There are elements we really like, but this metaphor plays out a little too clunky to thrive. Well Go USA Entertainment has delivered a great A/V presentation but nearly no special features. If the premise appeals to you or you like the performers, it is worth a look to see where you fall.
The Beast Within will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on October 22, 2024.

Dillon is most comfortable sitting around in a theatre all day watching both big budget and independent movies.
