While The Chosen might not sound familiar, it’s one of the most-watched shows worldwide, with over 600 million episode views. What started as a fundraising project became a groundbreaking historical drama about the life of Jesus and his followers. The story is being told through the eyes of the people who knew him. The seven-season show, distributed by Fathom Events in the U.S., is now returning to your screens and this time in literally a bigger way. Season four will be screened in theatres before heading to the streaming platforms. Episodes one to three will hit cinemas on the 1st of February, while episodes four, five and six follow on the 15th of February. The season concludes on the 29th of February with episodes seven and eight. After its theatrical run, the new season will be available on The Chosen app.
Season four will be darker and more emotional as Jesus and his followers face their greatest challenge. They try to understand their role in all of this. On top of that, Jesus becomes much more isolated as he faces even more pressure from the political and religious authorities. Ahead of the release, we attended the global premiere in London, and we were able to briefly speak to The Chosen cast members Jonathan Roumie (Jesus), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene) and Paras Pate (Matthew).
Actor Jonathan Roumie: You can expect a lot of maturity, darkness and sadness
Geek Vibes Nation: Hi Jonathan, welcome to London. For a lot of people, Jesus guides them through life and is an inspiration for them, too. Who guided you during your acting career?
Jonathan Roumie: I had several mentors, especially in season four. A guy by the name of Anthony Bobo is my acting mentor.
GVN: What can we expect from season four?
JR: A lot of maturity, darkness and sadness.

Actress Elizabeth Tabish: People who are curious to see it will love it
GVN: Hi Elizabeth, congratulations on the new season!
Elizabeth Tabisch: Thank you.
GVN: We’ll see two new episodes of season four of The Chosen on the big screen tonight. How does that feel for you?
ET: We saw it in LA a few days ago, and it was incredible. We got to see it with all the cast and some of the crew. It’s always very surreal to watch everyone’s work. You look back, like, “I remember that day; I remember that scene.” It’s a fun celebration.
GVN: This is the fourth season. How is it to grow with Mary throughout the series?
ET: At this point, I feel like Mary influences me more than I do her. I try to focus on what the writers have given me. I try to be authentic to her journey. She’s growing, and she’s very human in her growth. It’s a very human experience, and I can relate to that. It’s been wonderful to get through the series.
GVN: For the people who have never seen the series and who might be a bit reluctant to watch it because God and religion play such a central part in it, how would you describe The Chosen?
ET: At the end of the day, it’s a historical drama. You don’t have to have any faith background to enjoy it. It’s well-written and excellent storytelling—people who are curious to see it will love it.

Actor Paras Patel: Matthew’s going through those dark and emotional phases too
GVN: Hi Paras, welcome to London. How is it to see the series on the big screen? Because it doesn’t happen very often that you see a series.
Paras Patel: It’s been rare to see a TV show on the big screen. I think other shows are adapting that formula. It’s unreal. I know we experienced this last season, but having our entire season released globally now is surreal. I’m just living in the present. I’m just taking it all in. It’s even more surreal when you see all the fans out here. I didn’t know the show would be in Europe, and I’m shocked and just very humbled and grateful for that.
GVN: How is it for you to be able to portray Matthew because we don’t know a lot about him?
PP: Indeed, the show types him out and makes him this full-bodied character with so much relatability. That’s why so much of the audience can relate to him. And in that, I’ve learned in myself because I put myself in his shoes. I know how it feels to be isolated. I understand what it feels like to want to be someone else. My journey as an actor was hard. This wasn’t the path that family or others wanted because of the risk involved. And I feel like that’s the same for me. So that’s the way I work.
GVN: The new season is supposed to be darker and more emotional for Jesus. What’s waiting for your character in season four?
PP: Matthew’s going through those dark and emotional phases, too. We’re all a family, so the disciples are going through it together. Matthew’s also trying to understand. Jesus is very learned, and so he’s really trying to understand. He’s continuing to grow and learn about himself and just being the best version of himself that he can be. It makes him who he is.

The first two episodes of The Chosen Season Four are out in cinemas on the 1st of February.
