The Dreaming and Border Town Available Today From DC Vertigo

Today marks the release of 2 brand new series coming straight out of DC Vertigo. The Dreaming, being the first book from The Sandman Universe, and Border Town which is the first of seven all new creator-owned series. Let’s talk a little bit about each one and what we can expect from them starting with the latest addition to The Sandman Universe.

The Dreaming #1

Official Synopsis: “From the launch of The Sandman Universe comes THE DREAMING, a story about a kingdom in chaos as the Lord of Dreams has left his kingdom.  Where once it served as the place where stories were born, the realm of the Dreaming now lies slashed and bleeding. In the absence of their ruler, the residents of the land must protect its broken borders alone. But the world is now plagued with invasive secrets, unknown monsters, and the librarian, Lucien, now doubts his own mind. Don’t miss the new series from Simon Spurrier, Bilquis Evely, Mat Lopes, and Simon Bowland.”

The Dreaming and The Sandman Universe is a completely out there series, that may not be for everyone but its that very unusual nature that makes it so mysteriously interesting. The worlds and characters look to be about as crazy as the stories themselves and The Dreaming is defiantly something that has sucked me in recently and I’m looking forward to learning more about it. If you’re interested in learning more about Thre Dreaming you can check out one of my other posts where I dive into a lot more detail about the specific stories. Plenty of mysteries, monsters, and fantastical creatures to expect here which sound right up my alley.

Border Town #1

Official Synopsis: “The first of new, creator-owned series begins with BORDER TOWN when a crack in the border between realms unleashes the monsters of Mexican folklore. As the residents of Devil’s Fork, AZ are plagued by shared nightmares, otherworldly radio transmission, and mysterious goat mutilations, racial tensions will become supernaturally charged.  It’s now up to the new kid in town and a motley crew of high school misfits to discover what’s really going on. This teenage-supernatural-horror series comes from Eric M. Esquivel, Ramon Villalobos, Tamra Bonvillain, and Deron Bennett.”

I’ll be honest, I hadn’t heard of Border Town at all before writing this up but by the sounds of Synopsis alone, it’s definitely one to check out especially if you’re a fan of DC Vertigo and their other work. Mexican Folklore is certainly something I think would be very cool to explore and again it fits the out-there style of these series perfectly.

These series feel like a breath of fresh air to the comics scene right now, especially because they aren’t as well known as other major series and are certainly a little unusual in the best way possible.
