If you were worried how long it’d take Sam and Bucky to reunite in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier show, fret not. They quickly link up in episode two and it’s every bit as glorious as you thought it would be. Bucky and Sam’s banter in previous MCU films is what hyped us up for this show. And it doesn’t disappoint. Their snarkiness and snappy humor are prevalent in this episode. As well as some serious undertones that have to do with race, politics, and the question we’re all wondering, “why did Sam give up the shield?”
With The Shield Comes Great…
Granted, I feel as if Sam’s reasoning in episode one made sense. But, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the scenes where Bucky questioned Sam “why”? There was never a moment where Bucky said what he would do with the shield. Or that it should have been him with the shield. He was angry and referred to Steve choosing to give the shield to Sam and what that meant. But, never once made it about him. And I appreciated that.
Fake Captain America
I also, believe it or not; appreciated learning more about John Walker aka fake Captain America. With only 5 seconds of screen time in episode one, this character seemingly became one of the most despised people in the MCU. However, as Marvel tends to do, he was humanized in this episode. And whether or not his intentions are true, it’s both jarring and interesting to see someone else claim to be Cap while trying to work alongside Sam and Bucky. And it’s also interesting seeing how both are resistant to it, but can both let personal feelings go while trying to take down a bigger threat? Aka the Flag Smashers.
Flag Smashers
Who honestly seems like an organization you’d see in a Jack Ryan season. This why I love this Winter Soldier franchise; because there’s something inherently grounded in it. Sure, there’s epic battle scenes and super soldiers. But, groups like the Flag Smashers exist in real life. This kind of mentality very much exists and that tangible element of the show is what makes me love it so much.
Rating: 4.5/5
The ending of this episode was so exquisite and a perfect setup for what we’re going to see next. Just absolutely perfect for one of the best villains in the MCU – and also the most underrated.
