If you’re a film or television fan looking for your next podcast obsession, look no further than “The Film Nuts Podcast,” premiering its fourth season today, July 12. The series, hosted by filmmaker Taylor D. Adams, will drop new episodes every other Wednesday on all podcasting platforms.
The series, as described by Adams, is “a humble attempt to explore what we can learn about ourselves through what we see on-screen.” Every week, Adams interviews a new guest about one of their all-time favorite movies or television shows. The two discuss their experiences with their chosen media, what about it stands out to them, and how it affected them emotionally.
“I believe that one of the ways we can genuinely connect with each other is by sharing the art we love,” says Adams in a statement for GVN. “We don’t have to know anything about how movies or TV [are] made in order for us to feel something. In an era where folks seem to be constantly at one another’s throats, it feels hopeful to know that just talking with your neighbor about something you watched last night can open the doors of communication.”
In the show’s Season 4 premiere, Adams welcomes actor and producer Kornelius Bascombe to discuss Get Out, the modern horror classic that exposed the inverted racism of Obama-era identity politics. Bascombe, a black man, connected to the film’s exploration of the black male experience. “There was something fresh and different about Get Out that I keep replaying,” says Bascombe during the conversation. “Jordan Peele captured a lot of what black men think.”

He especially resonates with Peele’s portrayal of the film’s central interracial relationship between Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and Rose (Allison Williams). “[Chris] was really in love with this woman. He was willing to go against what [Rod says], to say, ‘You’re wrong about this woman, she’s the most amazing person,’ and then for him to go on this rollercoaster of thoughts like, ‘Damn, could this be what it is? It is what it is!’
“This was like a nail on the head with the black experience for me as a man … had I dated a white woman, those are things that [I would be thinking].” Adams and Bascombe go on to discuss their reactions to Rose’s third act shift in character, the value of Lil Rel Howery’s Rod as an audience surrogate, and the film’s original (now alternate) ending.

The two also go into Bascombe’s journey into acting and producing. Bascombe got his first big gig after answering a Craigslist ad for “a[n] improv host job,” which wound up being for the long-running reality series Undercover Boss. The series’ showrunner would bring Bascombe on to produce episodes beginning in Season 5, which led to Bascombe producing for additional reality staples such as The Amazing Race and The Real Housewives. Most recently, Bascome was featured as an actor in Jeep’s 2023 Super Bowl spot.
New to this season of the series is support from the Film Nuts Podcast Patreon. Patrons can support Adams’ podcast while receiving additional benefits, including early access to episodes as well as behind-the-scenes content. Other films and television shows that will be explored in Season 4 include Gladiator, No Country For Old Men, Twin Peaks, and Fleabag, amongst others.

Previous guests on “The Film Nuts Podcast” include Biological Anthropologist Dr. Tina Lasisi, Emmy-nominated writer/director Saleem Reshamwala, and TEDx-featured STEM education specialist Justin Shaifer. The series balances both industry professionals and laymen consumers. “What we watch connects and effects us all,” says Adams. “I think it’s fun to balance both.”
