    Thank you and good night!

As I write one of Midge Maisel’s signature catchphrases, the realization that this is the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel sinks in. While most shows either go too long that you’re sick of the lazy writing or they’re flat-out canceled, the Amazon show got an opportunity to plan and tell its ending. And as much as I appreciate a beginning, middle, and end, I’m quite sad that this is it. What a wonderful, spectacular show. And yes, it’s quite marvelous.

Since the first episode of the first season, I was in awe of this show. The writing, the acting, the wardrobe. The general wonderment of, is Midge actually going to make it? There’s something about the show that makes you put yourself in Midge’s shoes. You have big dreams and you want to go far – following Midge is like following the fantasy you’ve made up in your head and you wonder for a moment if it’s possible for you too.

    This is So Good

As I watched season five, I kept saying to myself, this show is so good. It’s full of surprises, which The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has always been full of. We see many of the same characters we’ve come to know and love, while also being introduced to new characters who are also done well. I just love the setting and how much the show leans into the era it’s in. When you watch the show, you don’t see anyone as an actor – you see them as the characters they’re playing.

It should be no surprise that every actor does a phenomenal job. The writing is fantastic. I can’t spoil anything, but it was really a wonderful last season. We, of course; get lots of funny moments. There are emotional moments. Moments I’m in awe of. I adored seeing the full circle of each character. Midge, Susie, Joel, Abe, Rose, Moishe, Shirley. Every character was great and had their individualistic moments that truly made you smile and be grateful that these stories exist.

We may never get a show like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel again. Certainly not for a long time. This show has had its ups and its downs. There were times when we were unsure if Midge’s dreams were destined to be fulfilled or stay in fantasy land. There were times I disliked characters like Joel, only to really like him in this final season. Episode six especially made me cry and there were some moments that genuinely broke my heart, while making me laugh the next moment. Nothing about this season was forced and it was a perfect love letter to what the show set out to do in season one.

    Stand-Out Performances

I have to really give credit to the performances of Alex Borstein as Susie and Tony Shalhoub as Abe. Of course, we know Rachel Brosnahan is phenomenal as Midge Maisel. But, the poignant and powerful moments that Susie and Abe had individually in this season were some of the best moments in TV history that I’ve ever seen. They need Emmy’s, I’m serious.

If you’re like me and you love this show, this is the perfect last season. My suggestion is, don’t worry. The show has a plan. If there’s moments in certain episodes that leave you wondering and you ask yourself are they really going in that direction? Deep breath. The show knows what it’s doing. It’s telling a story and I promise, it’s worth it in the end. I smiled. I cried. I felt touched. Maybe I’m just so in love with this season, but I genuinely have no complaints. No stone was left unturned. No character was left in the dark. I could have kept watching more, but I’m glad we made it to the end.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel hits this Friday with three episodes, with the rest premiering weekly until the series finale on May 26. So, sit back, relax, and remember, tits up.
