But while there are plenty of hotly-anticipated games still to arrive in 2024, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the remake of Silent Hill 2, and plenty of free online games for PC and mobile to keep you busy, there are some really big hitters likely to arrive next year.
Below, we pick out six of the best, focusing on those whose release date is not certain and those who hit development issues. Hopefully, 2025 is the year we finally get to play these titles:
Grand Theft Auto VI
GTA VI might not just be the most hotly anticipated game of 2025, but it has a shout of being the most eagerly awaited game in history. Formerly revealed in 2023, it is expected that GTA VI will come out in time for the pre-Christmas rush in 2025. Rockstar has fueled that anticipation by being deliberately tight with news about the game. Yes, that’s annoyed players to an extent, but it hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from hitting overdrive. Barring disaster, we should get our hands on it next winter. What do fans want? More of the same, but bigger and better.
Fable
This Xbox (and Windows) exclusive is almost certain to come out in 2025. The window was announced in June’s Xbox Showcase event alongside a new trailer. It marks the first release in the series since 2012’s Fable: The Journey, but while there have been some issues in development, the consensus is that Playground Games knows it has something exciting on its hands. Going by the trailers, fans of the originals are in for a treat. Ostensibly a reboot, Fable will take players back to the fictional land of Albion.
Marvel’s Wolverine

There’s a bit of a theme on this list of games being hit by setbacks, but there is a fair excuse for Marvel’s Wolverine, which was announced in 2021: Insomniac Games was hit with a massive ransomware attack in 2023, compromising everything from employee details to concept art for the game. It threatened to derail the project entirely. Nonetheless, Insomniac has recovered and is trundling ahead with the game, which will share continuity with Marvel Spider-Man games. 2025 looks like a good bet for a release.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
It’s almost guaranteed that we will see Metroid Prime 4: Beyond released in 2025. It was announced all the way back in 2017 at Nintendo Direct’s slot at E3, but Nintendo kept everything under the wraps until a trailer came out in June 2024. It looks great, with trailers and leaks indicating that an elevated role will come for the bounty hunter, Sylux.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Another “almost certain” 2025 release, Death Stranding 2 is written, directed and produced by the fantastic Hideo Kojima. Development was hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, but always the innovator, which caused Kojima to embark on a rewrite to incorporate the sense of a post-pandemic outlook. Nonetheless, if it is on par with the original (also created by Kojima), fans are in for a treat when it arrives in 2025.
Beyond Good and Evil 2
We will finish with a title that has a very remote chance of being released in 2025. Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been stuck in “development hell” for years, suffering various setbacks, including the death of its creative director, Emile Morel. In June 2024 – twenty years after the release of the original Beyond Good and Evil – Ubisoft claimed the game was still in development while dropping some hints about storyline and gameplay. It’s been fairly tight-lipped ever since. A 2025 release might be wishful thinking, but stranger things have happened.
