The New Mutants Director Wants to Write Two More Sequels

With everything getting delayed yet again, who knows if The New Mutants will be able to make its release date. Which, is a shame considering it’s been delayed for the past two or three years. And it looks like it could be one of the coolest comic-book adaptations ever. Still, we are all staying optimistic. As is the film’s co-writer Josh Boone. Who, is planning two more movies, apparently. Even though The New Mutants is the last remnants of the 20th Century Fox’s Marvel universe.

Boone had planned a whole world, as The New Mutants was meant to kick off this horror film franchise in the Marvel, Fox universe. Boone spoke with Collider about his plans:

“I think everybody just needs to see what happens with this one, see if it catches on or not. But we did always have a plan to do a second movie set in Brazil but it’d be Warlock and Karma introduced, and then a third one that utilized the Inferno crossover series from X-Men in the 90s which was one of my favorites growing up, that I thought was in the same tonal ballpark as doing horror stuff in each one. Each one was sort of a different horror movie – the second was gonna be an alien invasion movie and then the third one was gonna be like a Magik, Anya [Taylor-Joy]-related Inferno one. We were ambitious in our minds.”

If The New Mutants is an undeniable success, perhaps Disney (who now owns the rights to these characters) will consider letting Boone make his next two films. It’s still not said that they won’t keep Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and they’re releasing Helstrom on Hulu – a dark show. Studios recognize money and what gets them the most. So, let’s hope people go see the New Mutants…whenever we can.
