The Newest Marvel Director?

Marvel has made an entire cinematic universe and has dominated the box office since 2008. But behind each movie in the MCU is a director, and in most cases, an amazing one. From Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) to Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron) to Peyton Reed (Ant Man, Ant Man and the Wasp) to Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok) to Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) to Joe and Anthony Russo (The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers 4), Marvel is really the only studio out there that can say they have the best lineup of directors to go along with their lineup of amazing actors.

However, it seems to look like Marvel is thinking about a new director to this list. Director Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven, and Traning Day) revealed that he has a meeting with Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige in the near future. Fuqua told HeyUGuys “I’ve been approached about superhero movies…I’ll probably take some meetings soon and talk to those guys about it. For me, it has to be the right one, in the right situation because there’s so much visual effects going on and -‘where’s the director in it all?’ I need to understand it because it’s like management…they have a machine, they’ve got people, there’s the design, the whole thing is sketched out…Is the director doing that? Or is it a hundred other people?” Fuqua also said he’s going to have meetings with Sony about their Marvel Universe as well. Fuqua was lined up to direct the Morbius the Living Vampire movie, but Daniel Espinosa landed it instead, and chose to star Jared Leto.

“As a kid I grew up with comic books. They talked to me about Black Panther years ago, way back in the day. There’s some reason they came up and they talked to me about Sony, a Marvel character, Morbius…that kinda came up. I don’t know, I have a thirteen year old son so I’m watching more of that again and it’s exciting to do that. I’d love to create a new one. Y’know, something that’s closer to what I get excited about” Fuqua told JoBlo back at CinemaCon.

It seems to be that Fuqua definitely is wanting to dive into the superhero genre. Would you want to see him work with the MCU or would you rather see him work with Sony and their Marvel Universe? Let us know your thoughts below in the comments!
