It’s been a long wait for fans of The Old Guard since the first movie debuted on Netflix back in 2020, but there’s good news at last. One of the returning stars, Luca Marinelli, has shared a promising update on the anticipated sequel.
In a recent chat with Collider, Marinelli expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “I’m very much looking forward to seeing it, to watching it. But what can I say? It’s really cool. I’m very looking forward to seeing it, to watching it, as the audience, I hope.” His comments have added to the buzz, especially for fans eager to see what’s next for the immortal team led by Charlize Theron’s character, Andy.
The Old Guard, based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka, follows a group of mercenaries who have one unique trait: they’re immortal, with an extraordinary ability to heal from injuries. The first film captivated audiences with its mix of high-stakes action and compelling backstory, as the immortal team fights to protect their freedom when they realize their secret may be exposed.
Charlize Theron recently shed light on the delay, attributing it largely to management changes at Netflix. However, she reassured fans that The Old Guard 2 would be released “soon” and expressed her passion for the project, saying that she “really” loves the movie.
The Old Guard 2 is directed by Victoria Mahoney, with Greg Rucka returning as the scriptwriter, promising that the story will stay true to the source material. In addition to returning cast members Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Veronica Ngo, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, and Marinelli, the sequel will feature new faces, including Uma Thurman and Henry Golding in undisclosed roles. While plot details are under wraps, fans speculate that it will follow the events of “The Old Guard Book Two: Force Multiplied,” in which Andy and her team face past sins and wrestle with internal conflicts as they confront an unexpected threat.
With so much enthusiasm from the cast and crew, it looks like The Old Guard 2 will be well worth the wait. For now, fans can rewatch the original movie on Netflix to gear up for the upcoming action-packed sequel.
