‘The Punisher’ Season 2 Is Exactly What Fans Want, Marvel CCO Promises

The Punisher season 1 is still my favorite show in the Marel Netflix universe. After introducing Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle in the second season of Daredevil, I knew that Castle’s solo series would be unlike any of the other Defenders universe shows. Gritty, raw, and explosive, The Punisher showcased the many different sides of its title character rather than just the violent soldier that we primarily saw in Daredevil. Of course, our favorite anti-hero was everything we wanted him to be, but seeing him as a friend, husband, and father was not something we were able to see before his own show.

After the end of the first season, many asked where could they possibly go with a second one. Frank has no defeated all those who were involved in the death of his family and Billy Russo’s once beautiful face was torn to shreds. If you read the comics, though; there’s plenty in store for the Punisher after his original mission is done. Maria’s death, along with his children; may be avenged, but there’s plenty of work to do on the island of Manhatten that deserves Frank’s special brand of justice.

According to Joe Quesado, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer; season two The Punisher will be “exactly what the fans want” and went on to confirm something we already knew, “Bernthal is Bernthal. He’s a force of nature, the dude.” There’s no one else who is worthy enough to represent Frank Castle as well as Jon Bernthal. Considering he was my favorite part of Daredevil season two and absolutely killed it in season one of The Punisher, there’s nothing I’m more excited for than The Punisher season two.

When asked what excited him most about the upcoming season, Quesado expressed it was the villain who he looked forward to the most. That gets me all types of excited, because what does he mean? Obviously, we know from set pictures that Ben Barnes will return as Billy Russo, now Jigsaw from getting his face sliced down broken glass in the season one finale. Who else could be a villainous force? And will we ever get to see the Wilson Fisk/ Frank Castle showdown that was alluded in Daredevil season two?

No release date has been set, which doesn’t surprise me. The Punisher had been quiet last year as to when they were going to premiere, only revealing the date after NYCC. It had been rumored that the series was going to premiere October 7th, but due to the deadly shooting in Las Vegas, the date was delayed, as well as the panel pulled from NYCC. Considering the show was originally intended to drop without previously telling fans, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to do the same thing this time around.

The Punisher will see the return of Jon Bernthal, Amber Rose Revah, Ben Barnes, and Jason R. Moore, as well as newcomers Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, Giorgia Whigham, Corbin Bernsen, and Annette O’Toole. From set pics, we can see Royce Johnson is reprising his role as Brett Mahoney and can we please get a confirmation that Deborah Ann Woll will return as Karen Page?
