[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13171″ img_size=”800×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]If you’ve binged season two of The Punisher, I would hope that you feel as I do – we NEED a third season! While the season ended on a great note, there’s no question in my mind that we could always use more Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. If we were talking about this in 2017, there would be no doubt in our minds that a third season would indeed happen. But, 2018 came and went, taking almost all of the Marvel series on Netflix with it. Despite Luke Cage (gearing up for a third season), Iron Fist, and Daredevil having great seasons, Netflix pulled the plug due to everything that’s going on with the upcoming Disney streaming service Disney+. And we, the fans; are caught in the crosshairs.
The second season of The Punisher was ordered and shot before all of this happened and it dropped on Netflix during a time where everyone is certain it will follow the trend of its predecessors and get the axe. That being said, showrunner Steve Lightfoot shared that he does have plans for a third season, if they got the chance. Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb; commented:
“We would love that, and nothing would make us happier than to work with those talented writers and crew,” Loeb told EW. “As I have repeatedly said, it is not our decision. We are ready to go and would love to do so. It is Netflix’s call to make.”
Loeb continued:
“I’d rather not get into the specifics, other than we were and continue to be extremely disappointed by the decision that the network made,” Loeb said. “But when you’re in the game, that’s all you can do. Everyone has a favorite television show that has been canceled on every single network, and we just happen to be at that place right now.”
Keep in mind, Daredevil’s showrunner had in fact presented a season four to Netflix and Luke Cage had been gearing up for a third season, when both got canceled. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot commented:
“We were finished before any of this started happening,” Lightfoot said. “I left [season 2] on that final shot that was just meant to [make people go], “Wow, I can’t wait to see season 3.” That was it. That was what I want them to take away, and it’s like any show — if you’ve been in this business long enough, we’ve all worked on shows that got canceled that you wish hadn’t. I just hope we made a great show.… My philosophy is always make every season like it could be your last. Don’t save anything for next season, even if that means you’ve painted yourself into a corner. But make every season the best it can be, and hopefully, it speaks for itself.”
I can only hope that Netflix sees the reaction of fans throughout social media and makes the right call. Be sure to binge The Punisher season two and check out my review on The Punisher’s sophomore season.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
