The Russo Brothers Explain Decision to Split Up Avengers: Infinity War

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11184″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]When we had first heard about Avengers: Infinity War years ago, we had thought it would be one gigantic film to tie in everything and everyone we had seen throughout the years in the MCU. What we got was still a massive mashup, but instead split into two movies instead. After all, we didn’t see Antman, Hawkeye, or Captain Marvel in Infinity War, and from the way the film ended, it runs like one large series where we’re waiting for the next episode.

The Russo brothers, in a recent Collider Q&A; discussed the decision to split up these two Avengers movies:

“Because these movies are so big and so complex and there are some characters who are involved in both there was an idea we’d mix both movies and do what is called a cross board in a way,” Anthony [Russo] reflected. “But as we started to get closer and deeper into pre-production, everything was so complex and so hard to wrangle just for our own process and I think everybody’s process involved.”

“On a creative level, we needed to just separate the two. They’re both two very different movies and we wanted to treat them as very different movies.”

Joe Russo then added on:

“We started having production meetings that were lasting nine to ten hours because you have to talk about one movie then you have to talk about the next movie. Once we were doing that, people were getting confused on what scene was in what film.”

Finally, Joe commented on the length of Avengers 4:

“I’d say it could easily be a three-hour film. But I think that, you know, we’re very hard on the material. We like it to play at a certain pace. I’m sure that we’ll squeeze it.”

“I do think it’ll be longer than Avengers 3.”

I think I speak for everyone in saying that we will sit in the theater for as long as possible for the epicness that will be Avengers 4. The fourth installment, which has yet to have a name; will be released on May 3, 2019. Before then will be Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019. Are you happy that the Russo brothers decided to split up the two movies? Let us know![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
