The Russo Brothers Explain Why Katherine Langford Scene Was Cut From ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Last October, it was revealed that 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford was cast in a mystery role for Avengers: Endgame. She ultimately did not appear in the juggernaut film and we now know why.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’!

According to Collider, directors Joe and Anthony Russo were invited on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where they discussed that Langford did have a major scene in Endgame that was ultimately cut from the final version of the film. She was supposed to play the teenaged version of Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan. Originally, after snapping his fingers, Tony was supposed to end up in the Soul Realm just like Thanos did and have a conversation with his grown daughter after his sacrifice. Joe Russo went on to say, “The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

In the end, the entire scene was cut from the movie after early test audiences didn’t have a connection to the older version of Morgan Stark in the scene. Anthony Russo chimed in, saying: “What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level.”

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in theaters everywhere.
