Horror fans, specifically the sub-genre home invasions have something to look forward to in the future. The Strangers, the 2008 classic from director Brain Bertino, is getting not just one, but three more sequels. According to producer Roy Lee. Lee was speaking to Bloody Disgusting in honor of his anticipated film Barbarian scheduled to hit theaters next month. Lee revealed that the 2018’s wasn’t the last we’ve seen of the franchise, that in fact there are three more in the works, with production gearing up in September. He went on to say
“I think the next three are in production next month with another filmmaker that people will know,” Lee says.
This is definitely intriguing news, though sad Lee didn’t have much else to say about the projects as of now. Just one sequel would have been a big deal, but a whole trilogy? It must have really impressed the studio enough to get behind such big ambitions.
So many questions to be answered.
Obviously this stirs up many questions though, who is this mystery filmmaker that Lee has mentioned? We know Bertino directed the original, as well as Johannes Roberts put together the sequel, but the producer is telling us someone new entirely will be taking over the reigns possibly for all three films. Besides this, we have to imagine there is some kind of plan in place for the three films, maybe they already have a deal with a streaming service already? As of now much still remains uncertain, but you can stay tuned to Geek Vibes Nation as we bring you more news on this in the future.
The new Strangers films have no release dates as of now but are set to go into production this September.
