    Video Quality

The Tunnel To Summer, The Exit Of Goodbyes comes to Blu-Ray from Sentai Filmworks with a gorgeous 1080p transfer in its original aspect ratio. The comely animation style implemented for this adventure is replete with lush detail and texture. Every scene in the Urashima Tunnel especially delivers a tapestry of wonderous imagery that makes you thankful there are still creatives who embrace 2-D animation, even if there are some digital enhancements. The colors are vibrant and saturated considerably with complex hues delighting at every turn.

The transfer handles all environments with enviable stability including no jagged lines or color bleeding. Highlights are properly contained, and black levels are deep with no trace of compression artifacts or digital anomalies. This feature showcases some rich details that the animation team has memorably brought to life. Every location is filled with unique facets that make the space feel more complex. The character designs are distinct and consistent. Anime fans are sure to be pleased by this one.

    Audio Quality

The Blu-Ray comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless track presented here in its original Japanese, along with an English language dub. The film is presented with optional English subtitles. The soundscape makes the most of its sonic complexities for some natural texture to the world. Dialogue comes through crisp and clear without being swallowed up by any competing elements. The soundtrack adds tangible emotion to the story as it moves the audience with the surround sound presentation. The environmental detail in the surround channels is stellar as the sounds transport you into this narrative. Sentai Filmworks delivers a top-shelf presentation with this one.

    Final Thoughts

The Tunnel To Summer, The Exit Of Goodbyes is somewhat familiar in concept, especially in the world of anime, but there is something enduring about blending the exploration of inner turmoil and science fiction that simply works. The themes at hand hit particularly hard, and director Tomohisa Taguchi does an admirable job of bringing it to the screen. Certain facets could be refined to make elements even more resonant for the audience, but it is quite effective as is. The animation is a beautiful sight to see with its rich array of colors and textures. This is a film well worth discovering. Sentai Filmworks has released a Blu-Ray with an amazing A/V presentation and very sparse supplemental features. Anime fans will want to seek this one out. Recommended

The Tunnel To Summer, The Exit Of Goodbyes is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD.
