[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”17225″ img_size=”640×320″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]We recently reported that Marvel was looking to cast a gay lead in their upcoming movie The Eternals, which would be a huge step in Marvel’s mission to include diversity in the MCU. Marvel’s production chief Victoria Alonso tackled this much-talked-about issue, stating that it’s time for an LGBT superhero:
“The world is ready, the world is ready.”
Alonso then continued to speak about the importance of diversity:
“Why wouldn’t we be? Why wouldn’t we be?” Alonso said. “I’m so passionate about this I’ve got to tell you. Our entire success is based on people that are incredibly different. Why wouldn’t we? Why would we only want to be recognized by only one type of person? Our audience is global, is diverse, is inclusive. If we don’t do it that way for them, we will fail. If we don’t put pedal to the metal on the diversity and the inclusivity, we will not have continued success. Our determination is to have that for all of the people out there watching our movies.”
This would be huge and a real step towards accurately portraying the world around us. The Marvel universe within the Netflix realm few LGBT characters and Deadpool also expanded slightly on that subject, but neither operated within the movie Marvel Cinematic Universe. This would be a massive step forward and one I am completely in support of. Let’s do this, Disney!
