Thor: The Dark World Director Gets Candid About Movies Bad Reviews

It’s not a secret that the second Thor film is not really well-received among Marvel fans. In fact some people may say that Thor: The Dark World is probably the worst movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How does someone contend with that much negativity? Alan Taylor, who is the man behind The Sopranos prequel; was also the director behind Thor: The Dark World. In a recent interview, Taylor got candid about directing the film and the backlash that resulted from it.

What was Taylor’s inspiration behind the dark tone in the sequel? He says:

“[Marvel president] Kevin Feige was always smart about looking at what worked and didn’t in the last iteration and trying to retool from that. So I came in to ‘bring some Game of Thrones to it.’”

Taylor added:

“I really admire the skill set of somebody who can go in with a very personal vision — like [Thor 3 director] Taika Waititi or James Gunn — and manage to combine it with the big corporate demands. I think my skill set may be different.”

After such negativity from Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys, Taylor opened up about falling into a creative funk as a result:

“I had lost the will to make movies. I lost the will to live as a director. I’m not blaming any person for that. The process was not good for me. So I came out of it having to rediscover the joy of filmmaking.”
