Maybe this is because he was the first in many of our lifetime’s and most of us adults today were little more than teenagers when Maguire was slinging through New York City. Maguire may have hung up his suit, but there was a real possibility that he would have been brought on for the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse as an older Peter Parker.
In a recent interview with Spider-verse’s directors Bob Perischetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, the question was asked if Maguire was considered, since he would be around the right age to voice an older Parker. Rothman responded:
“There was. There were many thoughts about where we could put Tobey Maguire and others. I think after this film, those thoughts might have a little more traction. But before this movie, and introducing the idea of the “Spider-Verse” to the audience, I think everybody was afraid that it would just really confuse people. But wow, it would have been fun.”
Although we don’t have any of the Spider-Man’s from the past or present involved in Into the Spider-Verse, it’s still being hailed as one of the best Spider-Man movies of all time. The movie will hit theaters December 14th, are you excited!?
