Creator and first time director Todd McFarlane is doing everything he can to bring Spawn back and give fans what they want. So far he has gotten a great cast for the film with Jamie Foxx playing Spawn himself as well as Jeremy Renner. McFarlane caught up with our friends over at ComicBook.com and had some new information to share about the current script plus the films studio status.
“Yeah, I’ve got somebody that’s doing some tweaks on this script right now, And as soon as we’re done with that, we’re gonna go full steam ahead. I’ve got financial people waiting in the wings, so if the studios decide that they’re gonna hesitate, then we’re gonna just go with outside money.”
McFarlane says there is no date set for production, so if you see people reporting that there is then they are lying! McFarlane said production dates are open right now and he wants to find a studio first to see what their plans are. McFarlane does go on to say that studios that are not producing Marvel or DC films might be more interested in picking the film up.
It sounds like McFarlane is committed to getting this project started and hopefully we will hear some exciting news soon. With Blumhouse set to produce, I think Universal would be a great option for Todd. The Blumhouse/Universal partnership has been on a roll lately and Spawn could be a huge asset for Universal.
