Tom Hardy Thought VENOM Was Just Black Suit Spider-Man

Lets face it actors are actors and they take roles for all kinds of reasons. Some for the fame, some for the money and some for the source material. When it comes to comic book films we as fans hope studios cast actors or actresses who are deep in knowledge of the character they are playing but that is very rare. Many will pick up a comic once the role has been given to them and some want to make it their own version. Tom Hardy spoke with Total Film about Venom and admitted he had no idea who Venom was and that he honestly was never really into comics.

“I’m not going to lie, I just thought he was a black Spider-Man, I didn’t really read comic books, so my information was limited. But I was given loads of comics when I got involved. All the comics! And more importantly, I had my son as my guide. I was versed in the way of Venom by a 10-year-old. I consulted the oracle, there. And he would steer me on.”

Thank goodness for that knowledgeable 10 year old. Venom is not the first venture into comic book films for Tom who also played the man who broke the Bat – Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Bane was one of the highlights of the film and that is due to the tremendous acting abilities of Tom Hardy. How do you feel about Tom’s comments on Venom? You can see Tom as Eddie Brock aka Venom on October 5 in theaters only.
