AEW’s next big television event is Beach Break and will take place on the February 3 edition of Dynamite. The Beach Break card only features four matches thus far and one of those matches is a huge tag team battle royal. The winners of that battle royal will get a shot at AEW World Tag Team champions The Young Bucks.
But one of AEW’s top teams is now no longer in the running. The company announced via Twitter that Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, known collectively as FTR, have been suspended from active competition for one week.
Upon review of their conduct after the Jungle Boy v. Dax Harwood match, FTR are suspended from competition for 1 week, thus out of the #BeachBreak Tag Team Battle Royale. The suspension comes less than seven days after the Harwood versus Jungle Boy match on January 27. That match saw FTR, along with Tully Blanchard, assault Jungle Boy following Harwood’s loss in the middle of the ring.
Blanchard and Wheeler were handcuffed to Luchasaurus outside the ring during the bout but when the cuffs came off, chaos ensued. But the mayhem did not take away from the fact that Jungle Boy scored a hard earned win over Harwood, giving the former’s Jurassic Express, more positive spotlight.
Many AEW fans have been patiently waiting for Jurassic Express to climb the championship ladder in the company. Jungle Boy is one of the most popular young stars on the roster and Jurassic Express is a featured act in AEW. While tag team gold has not come their way yet, that could change sooner rather than later.
The Jurassic Express will compete in the tag team battle royal match, which gives the winners a shot at Matt and Nick Jackson. If Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus emerge victorious, then they will indeed be one step closer to the top.
One interesting caveat to the match is that The Young Bucks are also in and if they win, they will choose their challengers. This stipulation puts the control in the hands of Matt and Nick, who have been riding the fence as babyfaces for quite some time. Their current alliance with fellow former Bullet Club members Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers could eventually lead to a full heel turn at some point.
FTR are former AEW World Tag Team Champions. AEW’s rankings has the tag team in the No.1 spot as of January 27.
