Top Five Favorites To Make The Trip To New Orleans For Super Bowl LIX

The 2024 NFL season is only a game old and already fans are either pleased with the outcome from opening day or ready to call it a season. While it is rare that the first game of the year will make or break the season, as the league’s landscape is always changing, there are a handful of teams that entered the season as favorites. With a combination of talent on the field and strategic coaching and management off of it, the following five teams have emerged as frontrunners to take a trip to New Orleans and leave with the Super Bowl LIX title.

    Kansas City Chiefs

There have been nine teams over the course of time that have claimed back-to-back Super Bowl championships, including the Chiefs. As winners of Super Bowl LVII and LVIII, Kansas City is looking to become the first team in league history to win three straight titles.

Led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the sideline mastermind Andy Reid, the Chiefs have been a consistent championship contender for the past six years. With Mahomes’ ability to make magic happen with the ball and Reid’s innovative offensive playbook, the Chiefs are heavy favorites to head to the Ceasers Superdome on February 9th, 2025. The Chiefs are not just a one-trick pony as Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy all provide the team with offensive targets while Chris Jones, Trent McDuffie, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo work to protect their end of the field.

    San Francisco 49ers

The Bay Area hasn’t celebrated a Super Bowl parade since Steve Young piloted the 49ers to their fifth title in 1994. Last year the 49ers lost a squeaker to the Chiefs 25-22 in Super Bowl LVIII and are the second most likely team to make the trip to New Orleans. With one of the most complete rosters in the league, head coach Kyle Shanahan and staff have multiple weapons on either side of the ball.

Offensively Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle can put up points in a variety of ways, on the ground and in the air. Defensively, the Niners are a tough matchup for any opponent thanks to stars such as Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and Maliek Collins who are among the best in the league at pressuring opposing quarterbacks and halting the running game.

    Detroit Lions

A few years ago, football fans would laugh at the thought of the Lions being considered a contender for the Super Bowl. Advancing to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1993, the up-and-coming Lions have quickly transformed from perennial underdogs into serious contenders.

Quarterback Jared Goff has found new life in Detroit after being acquired for Matthew Stafford. Posting the second-best statistical season of his career, all eyes will be on Goff as he looks to connect with receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs to put points on the board. Aidan Hutchinson and Brian Branch anchor the team’s defense which has become a force to be reckoned with.

    Baltimore Ravens

After steamrolling the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional game 34-10, the Ravens’ inability to score against the Chiefs outside of a single touchdown in the first quarter during the AFC Championship led to their season coming to an end.

Much is made and said about the video game that is quarterback Lamar Jackson, who can change the game for better or worse with his arm and his legs. Adding star running back Derrick Henry gives the Ravens a player capable of putting up over 1,000 yards and double-digit trips to the endzone. Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith anchor a stacked defensive unit that is capable of shutting down any offense in the league.

    Philadelphia Eagles

While Jalen Hurts looked a little rusty in the season opener, it likely was just a blip on the radar. As a dual-threat quarterback, Hurts can beat opposing defenses with his arm or his legs. Speaking of legs, the addition of running back Saquon Barkley during the offseason gives the Eagles a beast on the ground. With protection from one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, Hurts and Barkley give the Eagles a great 1-2 punch.

Defensively, twelve-year veteran cornerback Darius Slay Jr. remains a threat, sophomore Jalen Carter could challenge for Defensive Player of the Year, and first-year cornerback Quinyon Mitchell should find plenty of playing time in the Eagles’ revamped defense under the eyes of coordinator Vic Fangio.

While the five above teams have positioned themselves as the top contenders for Super Bowl LIX, there are several other teams that could find themselves making noise late into the 2024 season. As February 9, 2025 draws closer, the interest in Super Bowl betting continues to grow. For NFL fans in Canada, Canadian betting apps have helped to increase the fan experience of the game, making it easier than ever for fans to place wagers on their favorite teams and players. With a wide variety of options from point spread to money line to prop bets, the Super Bowl is one of the most bet on events each year as each play, touchdown and stop becomes that much more exciting with something on the line for both players and fans.
