Troma Entertainment, the beloved independent film distributor and production house, is excited to celebrate 50 years of independent cinema this year – and boy, do they have some exciting news on the horizon. The company has officially announced that the entire Toxic Avenger series will be restored in 4K and released as a part of the massive Toxic Avengers Collection which will be available to own on 4K UHD + Blu-Ray on August 29, 2023.

The Toxic Avenger Collection features a new 4K scan and restoration of each film from the original camera negatives, presented in the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio in HDR with English DTS 2.0 stereo audio; new introductions for each film from the President of Troma Entertainment and creator of The Toxic Avenger, Lloyd Kaufman; and a collectible Toxic Avenger postcard, all compacted into one MONSTROUS, TROMArific 8-Disc TOX SET oozing with TOXIC bonus features. Get more details below!

After creating a new kind of sexy comedy in the 70’s and putting a new face on the superhuman hero in the 80’s with The Toxic Avenger, Troma continued to break new ground in the 90’s and 2000’s with quality, entertaining films. In recent years, Troma has emerged with such theatrical successes as Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, #ShakespearesShitstorm, and Eating Miss Campbell. Retroware Games is developing a retro beat-em-up video game based on the cult classic Toxic Crusaders series. It is set to release in 2024, and a demo is currently playable on Steam.

Troma has partnered with Alamo Drafthouse to present the new 4K transfer of The Toxic Avenger in theaters around the United States. Select screenings will be accompanied by appearances by Lloyd Kaufman as well as Toxic Avenger cosplayers, tromettes, and a raft of merchandise giveaways and contests.

Throughout its 50 year history, Troma has pushed the boundaries of independent cinema, inspiring countless filmmakers, and kickstarting the careers of bold new voices like James Gunn, Trey Parker, and Eli Roth. Troma’s massive film catalogue can be streamed on its very own subscription-based service, Troma Now. Many titles are also available on Peacock, Amazon Prime, Freevee, Tubi, Shudder, and more. The company is currently developing a FAST streaming channel, which will feature a stream of hundreds of Troma classics.

Synopsis: Melvin (Mark Torgl) lives the regular life of a 98-pound janitor at a gym, constantly bullied by the meathead members. The gym and Tromaville, NJ will never be the same when Melvin – after falling into toxic waste – becomes the Toxic Avenger! Toxie, armed with justice on his side, keeps the residents of Tromaville safe from the crime and evildoers that would tarnish the town he loves.

Featuring cameo appearances by award-winning actors Marisa Tomei, Michael Jai White, Julie Strain, and Corey Feldman, and A-listers including Hugh Hefner, James Gunn, Stan Lee, Kevin Eastman, and Eli Roth. Of course, no Troma-venture would be complete without musical legend Lemmy!
