Production has officially started on the fifth and final season of SYFY’s Van Helsing. With this announcement comes casting news. Kim Coates, Alie Liebert, and Steve Bacic join the action-horror series.
The New Additions
Coates will play Count Calibor, who is the husband of Olivia. He’s described as someone who makes “disastrous choices”. Despite his best intentions. Liebert will play Nina, whose colorful past intertwines with Aleks Paunovic’s Julius. Finally, Bacic will play the father. He’s a wild vampire who is draped in animal skins. And hides in an abandoned mine with a child.
Van Helsing is the first drama series to restart filming in Canada. Kelly Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Tricia Helfer, Keeya King, Paunovic, and Nicole Munoz star in the shot. They had shot three episodes prior to lockdown. According to Deadline, season five will consist of 13 episodes and keep its expected premiere date.
Chad Oakes, EP, and co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures, put out a statement:
“The safe and efficient return to production is a result of 12 weeks of tireless efforts on behalf of our entire executive team, producers, writers, directors and crew. This would not be possible without the round-the-clock consultation, drafting and execution of our safe return to work protocols with all the unions and guilds. … We understand the herculean responsibility to be the first out of the gate and will proceed with every cast and crew members safety as our first priority.”
EP and fellow Co-Chairman Michael Frislev added:
“Kim, Ali and Steve are incredible talents and we are thrilled to welcome them to our Van Helsing family. We started on our COVID protocols and PPE collection shortly after shutting down. The entire cast and crew have been through our COVID safety training and were tested prior to going to camera.”
