Who will it be at the top this weekend? Sonic the little blue creature or Harrison Ford’s The Call of the Wild. Will the CGI dog Buck be able to chase the video game adaptation out of the top spot?
Disney’s kid-friendly adventure is an adaptation of one of my favorite books Jack London’s 1900’s novel. The Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford and Buck the Saint Bernard is rated PG. In the opening weekend it’s expected to bring in $10 million to $18 million. Doesn’t look like it will be enough to bring down Sonic the Hedgehog. The book lover in me is rooting for the adaptation though.
Written by Micheal Green (Logan, Blade runner 2049) and directed by Chris Sanders, The Call of the Wild follows a man named John Thornton, whose path crosses with a dog named Buck. The big hearted dog’s world gets turned upside down when he is captured from his California home. He’s then sold to freight haulers and transplanted into the wild’s of the Alaska Yukon during the gold rush in the 1890’s. So far reviews are mixed with Rotten Tomatoes scores averaging 65%.
The Anya Taylor-Joy led Jane Austen film, Emma. debuts this weekend as well. Following the antics of a young woman, Emma Woodhouse, who lives in Georgian- and Regency-era England and occupies herself with matchmaking – in sometimes misguided, often meddlesome fashion- in the lives of her friends and family. Our own Dom Fisher gave the film 3.5/5 stars.
Also out this weekend for horror lovers is Brahms: The Boy II. Starring Katie Holmes who is the mother of family, that moves across the country following a home invasion to live in the Heelshire property. Soon they learn this home is no better but worse than the one they left. Their son Jude finds a shallow grave of a porcelain doll and takes him home. Soon they realize Jude isn’t using the doll to express his feelings after the traumatic events of the home invasion. What they learn is, the doll is evil with a history of killings and suicides.
Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 39% from audiences. Reviews coming out and saying like its predecessor it’s slow, predictable, corny and generic. Not for the hardcore horror lovers. Box office is only expecting the movie to pull in $6 million to $8 million dollars. Sounds like it might be tough for the movie to even make the top ten with others like Bad Boys for Life, and 1917 still topping the box office. We shall see.
Let’s us, know your thoughts if you go out and see these movies. Until next week, have a great time at the movies.

Mamma, Mimi, Michele, call out any one of those names and I will answer. There are several hats on my shelf. My passions are photography, being outside, movies, tv, pop culture and anything haunted or spooky. People are my other interest, I love meeting new people and socializing. When I lived in Savannah GA I worked as a tour guide both haunted and historical tours. I met people from all over the world, that was the best part of the job. All of this I can write about too, that’s the beauty of being a writer.
