Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story will not be shown in Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait. This is due to the 2021 version of this classic musical having a transgender character – played by non-binary actor Iris Menas.
This doesn’t come as too much as a surprise as a similar move happened when the Eternals wasn’t played in these regions – due to a same-sex kiss on-screen.
West Side Story comes out on December 10th of this year and I got the opportunity to see it myself. For my review, click here.
