What I would like to see in Matt Reeve’s Batman Film

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Over the years we have gotten different iterations of Batman. Each one has had something to bring to the table, but in my opinion, Ben Affleck is the best Batman. He has the intelligence, brutality, and Passion  (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). For me, this is what we need in our next Batman film, but on a much larger scale. This article is going to be about what I would like to see for Matt Reeves’ Batman.

A Great Batman

I feel like we will get those qualities with Robert Pattison as Batman. Robert Pattison seems to be a very underrated actor to those that only watch superhero films, all the complaints I’ve seen so far are surrounding Twilight, which was 2008-2012 and he has done many films since then, such as Good Time, The Rover, Cosmopolis and many more.

He transforms into his roles and Robert Pattison playing Batman will be no different. I have a good feeling that Robert Pattison will be the best Batman on the big screen and not only because of his acting ability but because of Matt Reeves.

Matt Reeves’ Skills as a Director/Screenwriter

Matt Reeves has been taking his sweet time perfecting his script and many fans, including myself, have been getting impatient, but this can also be seen as a good thing. For example, Matt Reeves taking his time shows that Warner Bros is showing no signs of interfering. They have confidence in Matt Reeves and we should to, especially since he has shown no sign of disappointments in any of his films.

War for the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Let me in, Cloverfield these are movies that he has written and/or directed. If you have not seen these movies I highly suggest you do so, and if you have watched these movies then you should have full confidence in his skills as a director and screenwriter.

What iteration of Batman?

I will respect whatever iteration Matt Reeves chooses to develop, but if I had a choice I would probably choose the Arkham series. For me, that Batman is the best Batman. We see his skills as the greatest detective throughout the games, especially with the side quest with The Riddler. The game demonstrates why Batman is one of the best martial artists in the Dc Universe.

Over the years we have gotten multiple types of the Bat costumes, from the God awful Batnipples to one of the best looking Bat suits depicted from the Frank Miller comic The Dark Knight ReturnsNow it is time for us to take Scott Snyders Batman costume from The Court of Owls and bring it to the big screen! On the topic of Court of Owls…

Batman Villains

The latest rumor right now is that there will be many villains for The Batman, namely Catwoman and Penguin. Many people have been saying this film will be like Batman Returns or even Batman Forever, but I feel like the people that are saying this are underestimating Matt Reeves as a film director and also in the evolution of storytelling. We have multiple storylines that Matt Reeves can adapt and have his unique taste to it.

This brings us back on to the topic of The Court of Owls. I really hope that The Court of Owls isn’t the main focus but it is teased throughout the films. Also, with the abundance of characters that are potentially going to be in the film,  Gotham City should be one of the most developed places in the DCEU for a Batman mythology

Casting the Villains

At the end of this article, I will have a poll with 3 different castings for each villain. For now, I will say what villains I would like to see throughout The Batman and who should play them.

  1. Eiza Gonzalez would be perfect as Catwoman! Not only is she sexy but she is a legit actress that has a ton of talent and she is a badass off-screen as well.
  2. Penguin and I think Jon Goodman would be a perfect crimelord. Jon Goodman just demands the screen with his acting abilities and for me, he would be better than Danny DeVito or Josh Gad in my opinion.
  3. Bruce Langley would make a great Riddler! I have only seen parts of American Gods and in those scenes, I have seen him in I can’t help but put him in the DCEU and as one of the most iconic Batman Villains of all time.
  4. Two-Face might be the hardest I had to choose but I think Jon Hamm has a certain intensity that the other two do not have.
  5. Madelaine Petsch for me is the definition of Poison Ivy not just because she has red hair but her acting ability just says it all! If you do not believe me watch Riverdale.
  6. I know that the Alan Tudyk is playing Mr. Nobody in Doom Patrol but he would make a perfect Clown Prince of Crime and just give off this creepiness that you only see with the Joker.
  7. Javier Bardem as Bane is the perfect casting that has not been cast yet. We need a Bane that is actually accurate from the comics and when I say accurate I mean intelligent and powerful we got the intelligent aspect in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises, but I feel like many more aspects of why Bane is on par with The Joker  as the best villain  is still missing and Javier Bardem with Matt Reeves can bring those aspects out.

Batman’s Detective and Martial Arts skills

We need a mix of Batman’s detective and martial arts skills. He is known as the greatest detective, but we only get moments of his detective skill in each movie. With that being said, those moments all seem insignificant. Batman as a detective needs to be felt throughout the entire film and I have full confidence that Matt Reeves will do just that.

Batman is known as one of the greatest martial artists in DC Comics, but it does not feel like it in any of his solo films, the closest we got was Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Warehouse scene. So hopefully we will get great action sequences from The Batman.

The choreography is not the only thing that needs to be on point, but also the editing. Editing is one of the most import aspects when it comes to action films. You can have great choreography, but too many cuts will make that action sequence feel and look terrible. The fewer cuts an action sequence has, and depending on the choreography, the better that action sequence will be.

Bad action sequence :

Good action sequence :

Sherlock Holmes is not the best movie, but it is a great example of how Matt Reeves should highlight Batman as the greatest detective. Also, the way Guy Ritchie uses slow motion when Sherlock analyzes an opponent when he fights is a great use of an action sequence. This is one of the many great ways Matt Reeves can show off Batman’s skill as a martial artist.
