Nobody expected Liverpool to be quite as good this year as they were during the last campaign when they were so close to winning four trophies. But even still, this season has been pretty awful for Klopp and his players. Since the beginning of 2023, they’ve only won one league game, which is relegation-level form. So yes, it’s fair to say that Liverpool are in crisis at the moment, and perhaps most worrying of all, there’s no clear pathway back to the top.

Still, this is Liverpool, and if there’s one thing we know, it’s that you should never write them off. In this article, we’ll take a look at what the future may hold for the Merseyside club.

The Hunt For the Top Four

Before the season started, Liverpool would have been confident that they would challenge for the title or, at the very least, secure a place in a Champions League position. With more than half the season gone, that’s looking increasingly unlikely. To snag a top-four position, they will have to win virtually every game and hope that their rivals for the spot — Newcastle and Tottenham — slip up along the way. Failure to qualify for the Champions League could have consequences if it means top-quality players no longer want to sign for the club.

    Champions League Glory

Of course, there is another way to qualify for the Champions League next season, and that’s to win it this year. Liverpool love the Champions League and have appeared in the final three times in the past five years. But could they win it this year?

It’s true that they’re not showing champions-level form at the moment, but they didn’t back in 2005 when they won the trophy either. Given that Liverpool seem to have a special relationship with the Champions League, there could well be a fair few people using a free betting offer from OddsChecker to back Klopp’s team to go all the way in the competition. If Liverpool can pull off an unlikely victory, then the narrative of this season will change dramatically. Fans would accept a lower mid-table finish if it meant such an important trophy was being added to the cabinet.

    Shaping the Future

Liverpool can’t pin all their hopes on winning the Champions League. It’s more likely that they’ll go out to Real Madrid in the next round than end up winning the tournament. Rather, Liverpool must focus on the future. This year is clearly a season of transition that will see the old guard move on and a new era get underway. And there are some signs that this project will be successful. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are still finding their feet at Anfield, but there’s a confidence that, once they do, the club’s attacking prowess will be just as strong as it was just during the last few years.

    Contending With Rivals

Liverpool could consider themselves unlucky to have been up against the incredible Manchester City in recent years. But in many ways, they can consider themselves lucky. Manchester City were the only real rival they had to face since other clubs were in their own transition periods. If Liverpool are going to get back to the top, then they’ll have to overcome Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle United, all of whom have progressed significantly in the past year or two.

    New Owners

It hasn’t just been on the pitch where Liverpool have struggled. There have been issues off the pitch, too. With the club up for sale, there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding Liverpool’s. While selling up might eventually prove to be a good move, the process of getting new owners can be complicated, and it can certainly affect results on the pitch. It’s hard to make long-term strategic plans when the club could be sold at any moment.

Liverpool are in a bad way. But if there’s one thing to trust, it’s that they’ll be back.
