Holidays
Holidays are quickly approaching and Netflix is pulling out all the stops for Christmas this year in their programming. Really it looks they almost raged war on the Hallmark channel for movies that are heartwarming and sure to make us cry. “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square” (Nov. 22), a homespun family drama featuring 14 new Dolly Parton songs, “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” (Nov. 13), a musical starring Forrest Whitaker and Keegan Michael-Key, and “The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2,” (Nov. 25), starring Kurt Russell as Santa. Additionally to those is “The Princess Switch: Switched Again” (Nov. 19), starring Vanessa Hudgens in the sequel to 2018’s “The Princess Switch”; “Alien Xmas” (Nov. 20), about what else, aliens and Christmas.
Non-Holidays
Those are just to name a few in the Christmas area of shows. In the non-holiday scheme of things, some of us are looking to the anticipated fourth season of “The Crown” (Nov. 15), with Olivia Colman returning as Queen Elizabeth and newcomer Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher! Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin are playing Charles and Diana, respectively.
Look toward the end of the month for “Hillbilly Elegy” (Nov. 24), directed by Ron Howard. The film is a family drama about the struggles in Appalachia, based on the memoir by J.D. Vance. There are high hopes for the Oscars with an all-star cast which includes Amy Adams and Glen Close.
