Who is Annette Bening in Captain Marvel?

Okay, yes, a bit of an over exaggeration, but who else has watched the latest Captain Marvel trailer about three or four times? In this trailer, which premiered last night; we’re given a longer look at Carol Danvers and the kind of “origin” story we should expect for the upcoming Marvel movie. We’re given not only some amazing visuals, but we’re informed of the shape-shifting race known as the Skrulls, taught more about the Kree, and Carol’s cat, who Nick Fury seems very happy with. It’s confirmed, the former director of SHIELD is a cat lover.

We also got a first glimpse as Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening in her unknown role. Seen and heard as explaining Carol’s backstory to her, we have to ask if this makes her the MCU’s version of the Supreme Intelligence? It would only be natural to give a well-known actress such as Bening the honors and since she knows so much about Carol’s story, she could be the large sentient head that is composed of the greatest minds of the Kree, which is then stored on Hala. While this is a stretch, look to Guardians of the Galaxy 2; Kurt Russell portrayed Ego, a living planet. If Ego could be a planet manifested into a being, why can’t Bening?

“I can’t give anything away.” Bening said of her role. “No, in fact, I need to call them again and they have to tell me exactly what it is that I can’t say. All I can tell you is that it is as much fun as you would imagine it could be. At least it was for me. It was so much fun, and I can’t tell you why because then it would give something away. It was like when you’re a little kid and you imagine what it would be like to be in a superhero movie, that’s what it was like. Seriously. It was fun.”

Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
