Now that the DC Universe streaming network has rolled out its Titans series, some fans have wondered when or if Dick Grayson will be making the transformation into Nightwing. With that in mind, Titans producer and series writer Geoff Johns explained in an interview with DC Comics about why the writers chose to leave Grayson as Robin as the show begins, as well as possibly hinting that Nightwing might be making his appearance in future episodes.
We talked a lot about starting Dick Grayson as Nightwing. We all got to a point where we’re going to miss and hop over what I think is a really interesting period of Dick Grayson’s life where he left Batman and he was struggling to find a new identity and who he was.
In the end, it was this period of transition, of deciding who Dick Grayson is and who he hopes to be, that became a main draw for the writers to explore. They also felt that it was important to show the parallels between Rachel’s journey toward Raven and Dick’s toward his as he adjusts to life out of the shadow of Batman. Johns explained it like this:
We took a sliver of the comics that dealt with Dick Grayson post-Batman a little bit and amplified that even more, exploring what that period for Dick Grayson was really like. Nightwing is such a stable, confident, emotionally balanced character—he’s Dick Grayson when he’s found his place in the world. We wanted to build up to him becoming Nightwing.
If we read between the lines there, it would seem that Nightwing will make his presence known in the coming episodes, once Robin becomes at peace with who he is and what he wants to accomplish. Are you satisfied with how Titans progressed so far? When would you like to see Robin become Nightwing? Let your feelings be known with us at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
