Wonder Twins #1 “Wonder Twin Powers, Activate!”
Art: Stephen Byrne
Cover by: Stephen Byrne
Variant cover by: Dustin Nguyen
Written by: Mark Russell
Synopsis
“Exiled from their home planet, alien heroes Zan and Jayna must navigate life as teens on Earth at South Metropolis High School, where they’re even bigger outsiders than the typical awkward young adults. Under the watchful eye of Superman, the brother and sister pull monitor duty at the Hall of Justice as interns, while also trying to overcome the pitfalls of Zan’s brash confidence and Jayna’s shy but streetwise persona. If you think you know the Wonder Twins, think again—this book takes the form of the unexpected.” – DC Comics
Story
I really enjoyed the story element for the first issue of Wonder Twins. Having Zan and Jayna being exiled from their home shows that something has happened which I hope we find out soon. Also, having Zan and Jayna not able to fit in at school is a perfecting setting for them to grow character wise. I love the way that Mark Russell makes this an underdog story that way we can see them flourish throughout the story.
I love the comedy aspect of the story as well. When Superman explains to The Wonder Twins how the Justice League operates it gives a couple of hilarious panels that I am sure everyone will laugh too.
Art
At first, I did not know what to think about the artwork created by Stephen Byrne. I did not find bad but it was very visually striking to me at first glance. Then as I was reading it, the art fit the aesthetic of the story, also you could feel the purity in Stephen Byrne art.
Overall Thoughts
This was a great story being told by Mark Russel. Love the character interactions, the comedic timing, fantastic message, and the art. This first issue of Wonder Twins will gravitate towards upcoming high school students.
Highly suggest you all pick up Wonder Twins #1 one today along with Young Justice # 1, #2 and Namoi #1 if you have not picked those up yet.
