As fans, we have a hard time of letting go of things. Once we are comfortable and familiar with a show, a film series, or an actor, we have a miserable time of letting them move on. So what if YOU are ready to move onto bigger and better things. We aren’t and that’s the bottom line because we said so! (With apologies to Stone Cold Steve Austin). Because of this predilection for maintaining the status quo, we always want to ask those who have moved on if they would ever return? Could they see an avenue to come back to the place that we have cemented for them in our hearts. Such is the case with Chris Evans as Captain America.
Recently, during the latest episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors interview series, Evans sat down with friend and Marvel co-star Scarlett Johansson and discussed their careers. Eventually, as it almost always does, the subject of Captain America came up. The question was inevitable, Would he ever return to Marvel and the role of Steve Rogers? For his part, Evans was very much on the fence about a possible revisit to the iconic character.
To Marvel? Wow. Everything clicks when I get up. Recovery is not the same. You never say never. I love the character. I don’t know. It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either. There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together. It doesn’t feel, at this time, that would be a thing.
While this would seem to shut the door on a return, his seeming reluctance to bolt that door and lock it might give those hard core fans hope. One things for certain, if Evans were to decide to revisit the role, the least of their problems would be to navigate a way for it to happen story wise. That is what comic book writers do.
Could you ever see an avenue where Marvel might bring back Steve Rogers? Perhaps as a cameo on a a Disney+ series? Share your thoughts about the possibilities with us at GeekVibesNation.
