TL;DR
-
WoW Forever adds no new classes, so you’re choosing from the same nine Classic had, with six new race and class combinations and the Skyborne on top.
-
Every race now runs two active and two passive racials, and weapon specialisations grant spell crit instead of weapon skill.
-
The classes did not change equally, with Shaman picking up nine new or reworked abilities and Rogue receiving none at all.
There’s nothing new for WoW Forever class. You still get the same nine classes from Classic, but several things have changed. Every race now has two active and two passive racial abilities.
Weapon specialisations now give spell critical chance instead of weapon skill, and talent trees get a new milestone at 16 points. Six new race and class combinations are also available for the first time. Another change that has received less attention is the large difference in training costs between classes.
All WoW Forever Classes and Their Roles
There are 9 classes in total and most of them do more than one job. Here’s the list of WoW Forever classes.
| Class | Roles | Armour |
| Druid | Tank, Healer, Melee, Ranged | Leather |
| Hunter | Melee, Ranged | Leather to Mail at 40 |
| Mage | Ranged | Cloth |
| Paladin | Tank, Healer, Melee | Mail to Plate at 40 |
| Priest | Healer, Ranged | Cloth |
| Rogue | Melee | Leather |
| Shaman | Healer, Melee, Ranged | Leather to Mail at 40 |
| Warlock | Ranged | Cloth |
| Warrior | Tank, Melee | Mail to Plate at 40 |
Druid is the only WoW Forever class that has all four roles. It changes roles by switching forms. Balance uses spells, Feral Cat fights in melee, Feral Bear tanks, and Restoration heals. One character gives you four different ways to play, but this also means Druids have more buttons and abilities to manage than other classes.
Rogue, Mage, and Warlock are at the other end of the scale. Each class focuses on one main role. This is not a weakness. You simply give up flexibility so you can focus on one playstyle without worrying about which role you need to fill.
If you’re planning to level, pay attention to the armor types. Hunters and Shamans start with Leather and can use Mail at level 40. Paladins and Warriors start with Mail and can use Plate at level 40. This means four of the nine classes change armor types while leveling. Gear you collect before level 40 may no longer be useful once you unlock the ability to wear the higher armor type.
WoW Forever Racial Traits
Racial traits are special abilities and bonuses that each race has in WoW Forever. They can help with combat, exploration, professions, and other parts of the game. There are 10 races in WoW Forever. Below is the list of each race and its racial traits
| Race | Actives | Passives |
| Human | Will to Survive, Perception | Sword Specialization, The Human Spirit |
| Dwarf | Stoneform, Find Treasure | Mace Specialization, Big Game Hunter |
| Gnome | Escape Artist, Eureka! | Expansive Mind, Engineering Specialization |
| Night Elf | Elune’s Light Shadowmeld | Quickness, Wisp Spirit |
| High Order Skyborne | Walk on Air, Read Ley Line | Wind Blessed, Elemental Insight |
| Orc | Blood Furry, Shatter Curse | Axe Specialization, Hardiness |
| Undead | Will of the Forsaken, Cannibalize | Underwater Breathing, Touch of the Grave |
| Tauren | War Stomp, Cultivation | Plainsrunning, Endurance |
| Troll | Berserking, Rapid Regeneration | Beast Slaying, Regeneration |
| Windshaper Skyborne | Walk on Air, Skysight | Wind Blessed, Elemental Insight |
The weapon specialisations are one of the more interesting changes because they no longer give weapon skill. Instead, they give extra critical strike chances to spells and abilities, even when you are only using the weapon for its stats. Human swords give 2% critical strike chance, while Orc axes and Dwarf maces give 1%. This means a Human Warlock can now benefit from the sword racial, even though it had no real use for Warlocks in Classic.
A few other racials have changed too. Stoneform now reduces physical damage instead of giving extra armour. Will of the Forsaken still removes Charm, Fear, and Sleep, but it no longer gives immunity afterward. Cannibalize now restores Mana as well as Health. Blood Fury gives Spell Power as well as Attack Power. Tauren Cultivation lets you pick herbs without having Herbalism. All racials that gave +10 resistance have also been removed.
All WoW Forever New Class Combo
WoW Forever adds new class combinations which gives you more choices when creating a character. However, not every race can play every class. Here are all the new WoW Forever race and class combinations you can choose from.
| Combination | Faction | Racial That Makes It Work |
| Undead Paladin | Horde | Cannibalize now restores Mana |
| Orc Mage | Horde | Blood Fury now grants Spell Power |
| Troll Warlock | Horde | Berserking speeds up casting |
| Dwarf Shaman | Alliance | Mace Specialization, and Shaman use maces |
| Human Hunter | Alliance | Sword Specialization is the biggest at 2% |
| Gnome Priest | Alliance | Expansive Mind raises maximum Mana by 5% |
Talent Changes in WoW Forever
1. The trees kept their Classic shape
The talent trees have the same number of rows, with key one-point talents at 11, 21, and 31 points. If you have used a Classic spec before, the layout will feel familiar. Some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12, while others have been updated, but the overall layout is easy to understand.
2. There’s a new milestone at 16 points
In Classic, the next major reward after 11 points was at 21, so going deep into one tree left you with very few points to spend elsewhere. With a milestone at 16 points, you can now unlock a key talent for your main build and still have points for a second tree. This makes hybrid builds possible in ways that were not practical in Classic.
3. Three talents stopped being talents
Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, and Improved Mark of the Wild are now baseline abilities that you get from your trainer. If you played Classic, that means you get three talent points back and don’t have to worry about who picked which talents before a raid.
4. Hit and crit each collapsed into one stat
Spell, melee, and ranged hit are now combined into one Hit stat. Critical Strike works the same way. This is especially useful for hybrid classes. Retribution Paladins and Enhancement Shamans no longer need separate gear stats for different types of attacks.
5. Bonus healing now does damage too
Bonus healing gives one-third as much bonus damage. It may seem small, but it makes a big difference. Healers can use their healing gear while questing instead of changing their talents or carrying a separate set of gear for solo play.
6. Classes did not change equally
| Class | New or Reworked Abilities |
| Shaman | 9 |
| Warrior | 7 |
| Paladin | 6 |
| Warlock | 6 |
| Druid | 4 |
| Hunter | 4 |
| Priest | 4 |
| Mage | 2 |
| Rogue | 0 |
What WoW Forever Class Should You Choose?
No matter which class you choose, you’ll need to earn your Gold somehow. WoW Forever doesn’t have a WoW Token yet, so you have to grind as much as possible. Or, you can just buy WoW Forever Gold from other players instead if you want to save time.
