Triple H continues to peel back the layers of the business in a unique yet refreshing way. If anything comes from the partnership with Netflix, this series is something special. This season unpacks quite a bit, including how the writers navigate injuries, backlash, and the retirement of a legend.
In the third season of WWE: Unreal, we follow the end of an era with John Cena’s retirement tour. Outside of that, we get an inside look at the return of AJ Lee and the rise of new superstars Bron Breakker and Oba Femi. What it is like behind the scenes as the writers scramble to figure out the next man up after injuries to Seth Rollins. As we say goodbye to one of the wrestling goats, we start to follow the next generation of stars.
‘WWE: Unreal’ Season 3 Review
One of the more fascinating things about this season was witnessing how one injury can change things on the fly. The world of professional wrestling is year-round. That means the writers are planning things months in advance. With the snap of the fingers, Rollins got hurt, changing the course of what they had planned. Furthermore, the man they wanted to put into his spot, Bron Breakker, also got hurt. The injuries changed the game, and viewers get an inside look at how they fixed it all.
If you read social media, Reddit, or the wrestling boards, not many people like Triple H. Furthermore, according to those boards, the locker room isn’t a fan of him either. However, if you watch this show, you see the polar opposite. You see the likes of Liv Morgan, Bron Breakker, and a host of others that show true appreciation of what he does for them. And I think the feeling that Triple H gets when it is reciprocated is authentic.
John Cena has always been someone who gave back. Although much was said about how things unfolded in his retirement tour, the behind the scenes of watching it unfold told a different story. You saw a man who wanted to cover all his bases and fight all the guys who helped him pave the way while also allowing the fans to get a few more final dream matches. More importantly, it was beautiful in the way that he wanted his final show to feature the future of the business. Cena will be missed in the ring.
We got John Cena, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins, and that was great. But the most beautiful thing about WWE: Unreal Season 3 is the way they paved the way for the next generation. There are many questions when you look at the roster or even the champions and try to figure out who the next star is in the back. This season showcased they’ve got the talent in the locker room.
From the monster that is Oba Femi to the immensely talented and charismatic Trick Williams and the brilliant Liv Morgan. I know Morgan isn’t “new” per se, but bringing her vibrant personality to this season was perfect. Femi is larger-than-life, and my goodness, is a future (current) star. And my love for Trick Williams is endless because he is one of the most talented wrestlers in the business today. I loved following the new faces.
Is WWE: Unreal Season 3 Worth Watching?
Look, if you are a fan of professional wrestling or have watched the first two seasons of WWE: Unreal, you won’t need me to convince you. For me, WWE: Unreal Season 3 is by far the best season yet. An inside look at the writers table as they shift the plans due to injuries, new faces on the rise, and the last retirement of a legend. I hope that they continue to balance the veterans with the new faces to allow them to grow. It’s one thing to watch them in the ring, but to see the personalities take them to that next level.
