Forspoken’s massive open world, Athia, is beautiful, immersive, and downright scary. You can experience this for yourself by getting the game on Steam with a Steam Wallet Code from OffGamers here.
Now, although Frey has a smorgasbord of magic spells at her disposal, your cloaks, necklaces, and nails, can determine the difference between life and death, more often than not. Unfortunately, finding the best gear to equip in Forspoken is easier said than done.
To save you some time from searching, we’ve rounded up some of the best gear to equip in Forspoken as well as where to find them.
1. Phool Sa and Naee Aasha (Necklace)
These necklaces have three free slots as standard with decent base stats (both increase the effect of Frey’s purple magic) so you don’t have to worry too much about upgrading. More importantly, they’re not hard to find.
You can win Phool Sa from Thane in the Blessed Plains south of Cipal. Meanwhile, Naee Aasha is available after you take out the second main story boss. All you have to do is to talk to the Archivist and they’ll give you the necklace.
2. Aftershock (Nail)
As far as end-game gear in Forspoken goes, you don’t need to go far from Aftershock. This gives your killer blows (the ones you execute by pressing Triangle to take out down enemies) an extra explosion effect for added damage. Keep in mind that killer blows in Forspoken are awesome, and adding Aftershock makes them even more so. In time, the damage from a single killing blow will be up to three regular hits, especially when you’re surrounded.
The best part is that you earn Aftershock during Chapter 5 during the normal story progress as you enter Praenost Castle.
An alternative is Escalate, which you get after defeating Apsaravis at the Ruins of Koshish in Junoon. The killing blow effect isn’t as explosive but it does let you chain deadly combos together after one killer blow, which can be just as deadly if used correctly.
3. Unstoppable (Cloak)
Athia is fraught with danger in every corner. You can fight through the demons but your best recourse is to avoid them. Frey might be a powerhouse later in the game but dodging will be key to your survival in Forspoken. With Unstoppable, this defensive manoeuvre becomes an offensive move that gives your attacks some extra offensive power when you find the chance to shoot back.
To find Unstoppable, go to the marked area on the Militis Academy. If you investigate the ancient site and defeat the enemies, you’ll find a chest that holds the Unstoppable Cloak.
4. No Limits (Cloak)
So far, this is a pre-order exclusive for the PS5 in Forspoken. If you missed out on it, you’ll never get your hands on No Limits. But, if you did pre-order Forspoken, then you’re in luck. This PlayStation-themed cloak boosts your attacks whenever you use a healing item. It’s invaluable, especially during the early parts of the game where you’ll spend most of the time getting hit – more often than not.
5. Blessed (Nail)
Critical hits are crucial in Forspoken. Magic might be awesome but you can’t substitute the raw power of higher damage. Getting Blessed is worth sacrificing one hand for if you want your critical hits to hurt as much as they should in Foprsoken.
Blessed can be found in Chichek in The Water Garden, just west of Cipal.
6. Home Sweet Hell (Necklace)
These are the three effects of Home Sweet Hell:
- Attack Magic triggered during parkour restores stamina
- Killer Blows deal more damage
- Recover from defenselessness more quickly
A quick look at the states above will quickly explain why Home Sweet Hell is one of the best gear to equip in Forspoken. The only problem is getting your hands on it.
To start, you’ll need to collect 64 Old Coins that you’ll need to use to buy a Sewing Kit from the Curiosity Shop in Visoria. Afterwards, you can craft Home Sweet Hell using 3 x Fluteblossom, 3 x Bumbershoot, and 3 x Lucid Garland.
7. Orison (Necklace)
Surviving isn’t easy in Athia, which is where Orison comes in handy. It has a special effect where Frey gets healed for every enemy she defeats. This is especially useful early on in the game when you’re still getting used to the game’s combat system
To get Orison, you’ll need to clear the Locked Labyrinth: East in the Barren Plains area.
8. Pelerine (Cloak)
Another item that will help you survive better in Forspoken, especially early on, is the Pelerine cloak, which lets you regain health every time you land a critical hit.
You can buy the Pelerine cloak from the Poppet collector in Cipal for two poppets.
9. Savage (Nail)
With over a hundred skills available to you in Forspoken, getting Savage is a must. This boosts your damage for every skill that you’ve learned, which makes it end-game material. Square Enix knows this because it’s found fairly late in the game. Then again, we doubt Savage will be as useful early on when you haven’t as many skills yet.
An excellent alternative is Blessed, which also improves your critical hit chance and boosts spell damage by 2%.
10. Veriment (Cloak)
Veriment is the best gear to equip in Forspoken, at least in terms of cloaks. It’s unrivalled in the stat attributes it gives and it gives you four ability slots. It offers a damage boost when your health is slow with a higher Surge Magic recharge rate to boot. In addition to this, the cloak boosts the stamina recharge and Critical Hit rate when Frey’s HP drops.
Given how often you’ll find yourself with low HP in Forspoken, it’s easy to see why plenty of players will risk getting their hands on Veriment as early as possible.
While not impossible, getting Veriment early is difficult. You’ll need to complete the Locked Labyrinth: North Dungeon and defeat the final boss to get it as a reward.
As you can see, Forspoken gives you plenty of options to choose from when it comes to how you equip yourself. Ultimately, the best gear to equip in Forspoken is what fits your playstyle and situation best. Also, don’t forget that you can use two nails in Forspoken, so feel free to mix and match different nail types depending on your preference.
