Video Quality
1982: Greatest Geek Year Ever! makes its Blu-Ray debut via the MVD Rewind Collection with a 1080p transfer featuring a variety of materials in varying degrees of quality. The core transfer of the film itself and everything within it looks as technically proficient as you would hope for in high definition. This is a long film, but this release avoids any compression artifacts or other digital nuisances of the sort. Interview segments look incredibly crisp and clear with natural skin tones and subtle facial features present. The movie clips used seem to be the best versions that were available when this was created, with most of them looking pretty strong. You really could not ask for better. It’s a wonderful transfer handled with care by MVD Entertainment.
Audio Quality
MVD Entertainment brings us This Blu-Ray disc comes with a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that represents this feature exceedingly well. As this is mostly an interview showcase with talking heads abound, dialogue is the focus right up front in the center channel. The surround channels get some ambient noise on occasion which makes the soundscape feel a bit more spacious, but overall the track is more reserved. The movie clips maintain their quality pretty well even if it is a slightly more contained experience than watching the same scene within the context of the film. The surround sound presentation is enveloping while maintaining the artistic choice of the film. Everything here is groovy. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
1982: Greatest Geek Year Ever! strikes the right balance between taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane and attending an expert-level discussion to peel back the layers. There have been many of these types of documentaries over the past decade, but this stands out as one of the better executions with a good assembly of A-level talent involved with the projects and film historians adding valuable context. At nearly three hours, the creative team hits on as much as you could reasonably hope to without going full double-digit episodes in a limited series. MVD Entertainment has delivered a Blu-Ray with a great A/V presentation and a nice selection of special features. If you are a geek at heart, you will have a blast with this one. Recommended
