Without a doubt the highlight of the festival season is, in my humble opinion, the 2023 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. The festival will be celebrating its 27th edition with a large and varied program of screenings, workshops, and launch events running from July 20 through August 9, 2023, taking place at the Concordia Hall Cinema, with additional screens at the Cinémathèque Québécoise and Cinéma du Musée.

Fans of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy all gather to have their collective minds blown by the offers there. This year is a nice mix of new filmmakers and some familiar, and as always, the festival does an amazing job with highlighting diverse voices. A staggering amount of feature film and shorts are being screened this year.

Below are some of the most exciting titles being screened at the festival that I am beyond hyped for:

    • Where the Devil Roams
    • My Animal
    • #Bossbabe
    • #Manhole
    • Lovely Dark and Deep
    • Shin Kamen Rider
    • Late Night with the Devil
    • The Primevals
    • Birth/Rebirth

Special Events this year includes Artist Talk with:

    • Charles Band
    • Larry Kent
    • Jimmy McDonough
    • A Career Masterclass with Roadkill Superstars moderated by Andrew Mack and Screen Anarchy
    • Terror in the Alien Realms Book Launch and Live Reading
    • Dark Matter Presents: Reels Book Launch and Live Reading

As always Fantasia Festival highlights voices from marginalized groups. Spotlighting this is events such as Bipoc Futures in Canadian Genre Cinema Panel and Born of Woman Spotlight on Women in Cinema.

Notable mainstream titles include A24’s Talk to Me, which debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
